Diet Plan?

I don't have all the particulars, but my Brother told me that he and his brood are all on some kind of 'nothing white' diet.....no white bread; no white rice; just brown rice (which is pretty tasty actually). If this diet includes chicken and pork, 'the other white meat,' I'm screwed. Because I don't eat a whole lot of red meat anymore anyway. Chicken and pork are pretty much most of what I eat; with some fish thrown in occasionally.

I just don't know what you CAN eat on this diet.

It was suggested that I too subscribe to this diet plan 'for my own good.'
My concern is the meds I take; and have to take; and how this diet will affect them. Guess I need to do a little research when I can get my hands on some literature.

Except that even brown rice is high in carbs for a first phase of any low carb diet.

Yeah, you are right, so I'm wondering if it is South Beach? But then again, I don't believe brown rice is allowed in the 1st phase of that either. I cannot remember.

Nope, it's not. I am the queen of low carb diets. I just cannot seem to stick to them anymore. #teamfattie

Just read that this diet is beneficial to those with high B.P.; that would be me; and diabetes; not me. But is that hyPOglycemia or hyPERglycemia?

I also read that this diet can also treat epilepsy.
I have seizures due to surgeries due to a genetic medical condition; but I am not an epileptic.
So, hmmm.....
My problem is, I drive. If I was a child who of course did not drive, there would be room for experimentation; ie; reducing or eliminating my meds to see if the diet works. So, therein lies my particular problem. /:-\

I think if you dig a little deeper you'll find that the ketone diet for seizure control is shown to be successful in children. Adults, not so much.

I'm not sure, but that sounds about right.

the "nothing white" is just a cheater way of lowering carb intake. it doesn't include meat..it basically keeeps you from eating most refined crappy carbs...ie bread, pasta, and sugar.

Well, that bit of false hope was thrown in there, IMO, just to get me to follow the plan. I didn't really think a diet plan could/would eliminate my seizures.
The meds do, but they also knock me on my a**; which is why I take 'em at night. Taking 400 mg of Phenytek and driving.....
NOT a good idea.

:yeahthat: But chips, sodas, candy, cereal, and tons of other things that are HIGH in carbs are not white.

Not to be a wise-a**, but can folks on this diet have raw sugar?
The slightly brown stuff?

yeah I think the "white" in there is the white sugar, or the white flour used to make it. but of course..if someone needs to exclude a color in order to eat right and DONT understand the mechanics of it..they are doomed anyway :killingme

I highly suggest buying the book of any diet or finding enough info online before starting it. South Beach was the key to my weightloss. At the time, I had both the diet plan book and recipe book.

At that point, doesn't it become a list consulting thing?
This, this, this and this are on the list; can't have those.....

no. The entire purpose is to lower your carbohydrate intake. So instead of looking at the color of something, learn how to a read a label or use a food tracker and pay attention to the carb counts in food. the "white" is only a cheater. You cant possibly be succesful on a low carb diet without understanding the mechanics of it and how it works. but I will say that even a slight decrease in carbs is enough to help some people..my roomate lost like 20 lbs just cutting a few major sources of concentrated refined carbs without really adhering to any sort of plan.
