Digital Camera Photo Uploading

Okay, I'm so irritated with this that I'm about to hollllllllahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

My pre-Christmas digital camera was 3.2MP, and the photos were about 300KB in size or so. I use Wal-Mart's online photo center to process my digitals - I upload the pics online and have them mailed direct to my home. Easy peasy...fast upload, blah blah blah. I could even upload 250 at a time without any issues, and the uploads progressed at a normal rate over my DSL connection. Oh...and by the way, the photo center accepts JPG files under 6MB each and you can add up to 200 MB during each session. Alright, so for Christmas I got a nice new 7.2MP camera, but all of my pictures taken with it thus far are 5MP pictures. Those pictures end up to be about 3MB each, so above the old camera file sizes of 300KB. But, still well within Wal-Mart's photo center rules. Welllllll, no matter what I do the suckers won't upload! I even tried doing 10 at a time as opposed to several, and it'll get 4 or 5 uploaded, and then hang up and start all over. I've been battling this and trying over and over for a few days now. All the while ensuring that nothing else is running in the background, husband's PC and xBox aren't running on the DSL, etc.. - so the photo center is the only thing sucking up any DSL.

Is this a common issue? What do the rest of you do? I absolutely hate putting the pics on a CD, using the dingbatty store kiosk, and going back to Wal-Mart to pick them up - definitely don't want to go that route. Is there another site that would do the uploading better that you all are using, or is it just me??

I use the kodak photo gallery. They have a tool you download that speeds up your uploads and lets you drag and drop. BUT, I've not tried any uploads with my 7+ megapixel pics yet, so not sure if it can handle the load.

I take my camera to Wally world and plug the SD chip into their photo center kiosk. It takes an hour and costs (I think) 19 cents for each 4x6.

I pay 10 cents per 4x6 online through kodak. It's normally 15 cents, but I have a family webpage through them so I get a discount. Which REALLY helped my pocket book when I printed around 700 prints in one go. :faint:

Try SMUGMUG.com It's a pay for storage service, but you can order prints from their site, and share your photo folders with others online.

WELL worth the $$$

 why do you want hard copies of your pics?

Try a digital album. Burn some pics on a cd and see if your dvd player will show it. A lot of the new ones will play them

For albums. I keep most of my pics on disk, but I always make prints of the good ones to put in albums. It's something nice to have. They're also nice for sending pics to people. Not everyone has computers (my grandma doesn't have one )

I have to agree with the kodak site. I normally do walmart, but i just took 992 pictures and Kodak gallery was the best upload and their cost is better than wal-mart.

I get hardcopies to support my wife's scrapbooking addiction or to send to family. If I need one or two pics, I print them at home. For more than 5 the time and cost start to push me toward a walmart run. I looked at the online options, but honestly I'll be in Walmart sooner or later anyway, and the cost difference wasn't enough for a dime here or there in savings. If I was printing a thousand pics (no clue why I would) then I'd start pinching pennies per print.

I do a digital album once I get a hundred properly organized.

I used to do that, but I can do it cheaper via Wal-Mart's online system. Plus, I'm not a frequent Target/Wal-Mart go-er, so it's more of a hassle for me to go there, mess w/the kiosk, and either wait or come back for the pics.

B/c I scrapbook, and also just like to yank out a 'real live' photo album from time to time! Just my preference to have the pictures both ways, I guess.

We actually play our pics on the t.v. often, as husband has his Xbox networked w/our PCs. So, we can use it's remote control and view all the folders right on our television! Yeahhhhh babyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

Had the same problem with my 7.2 MP. I had to shrink the images down to upload them at walmart.com, which kind of defeated the purpose of a nice high-res camera. :ohwell:

They need to update their software/hardware capabilities to handle newer cameras.
