Disney World

In My Opinion
Flying is a good way, but I have always preferred driving.
I like seeing what is in the country between point A and point B.
I like spending the night in hotels in various areas and going out at night and seeing what is in that town.

I do not like when the 82 year old man runs off the road on I-95 during a quick stop and slides around the car in front of him only to do 4 grand worth of damage to the side of my less than a year old car, then he lies to his insurance company and they give me grief over paying the damages and I have to set up my own insurance to cover it, only to finally win the argument with his insurance company after I fax a police report to them that clearly states that old man lost control of his car.

but I digress

I prefer driving.

We went in mid May (before gay days) this year, and stayed in the Contemporary. There was only one terribly hot day, and only one day with thunderstorms. Between fastpass, light crowds, and good timing, our longest wait for a ride was 30 minutes.

If you rarely visit, staying on the property is the way to go so you aren't spending as much time getting to the parks. If you go frequently, staying off property will save you some $$$.

We got our best prices on the web and through Disney, then went to Carlson Wagonlit to see what they could do. They ended up being $60 more (out of $3K), but got us a better flight, as well as handling everything. They also gave some good travel tips and a few little extras.

My recommendation is to figure out what you can get online, then let a travel agent have a shot at it. That way you won't be wondering if you could have done better.

I was just curious. Does Disney promote this gay day stuff or is it something the gays just plan themselves?

Disney doesn't promote it, nor do they discourage it. It is unofficial.

They don't make money by pissing people off, so they try to be neutral. Even if you did go there during gay days, I doubt you would notice anything. It's not like they bathe the place in pink for a week or something. It's a time that a few thousand gays attend, with little effect on the tens of thousands that are there at the same time. You are probably more likely to see a flamboyant gay than at other times, but it's not like they are packing fudge in the park.

The deal with Gays and Disney dates back to the 1980s. When the AIDS epidemic was at its peak, a lot of gays who were sick and couln't take care of themselves moved back in with mom and dad, which meant a lot of them moved to Florida since this is a mecca for retirees. These gays brought their lovers with them, and their friends, and many went to work for Disney as that was the primary employer in central Florida at the time. The gays were pretty much invisible for a while, but then the costs of healthcare for their sick buddies got sky high, and they wanted healthcare insurance from Disney for their "significant others." At first Disney declined, but then the gays threatened to go very public and let everyone know that most of the folks working at Disney were gay, and Disney caved to protect its image. This was also the time that you saw big increases in the admission prices, and the reason for those hikes was the cost of providing medical insurance to the gays.

Of course, like most deals people make with folks who call the Left home, the Gays got their medical insurance (which everyone who visited Disney paid for) then turned around and made more and mroe demands, resulting in the Gay Days, which has been nothing but a huge embarrassment for Disney but they haven't been able to "straighten" the work force due to all the economic development in the Orlando area. Disney is still stuck with a lot of gay workers, and gays who are now managers, and they're having a tough time attracting workers.

So, Walt Disney himself, would probably roll in his grave if he knew this was going on. I think my father would, too. God, PLEASE! Help us. Between the crazy Muslims and the liberals our world is going down hill, quickly!

When is the best time to take a family to Disney World? I would like to take my family there sometime over the next 12 months. Is there a good time when the weather isn't too bad and it isn't that crowded. I also understand they have special days like gay day, etc. I wouldn't my kids there during that either. Also, what's the best way to do it? Buy a package deal directly from Disney.com or piece it together myself. Either way, it looks expensive but what the heck!
We went the first week of November and found the timing was perfect! No long lines, not too crowded and the weather was beautiful staying in the 80s during the day.
