Do we have a SOTU thread?

Omg! I flipped to MSNBC and they are all huddled together trying to analyze his quip " there cannot be ... and legislation with war and investigation " . To me he was saying so much time and money is being spent on fighting and digging for dirt on each other that nothing else is getting done. But they are saying he is being threatening and will not allow legislation unless the end the investigation... kid you not. THAT is their takeaway.

And I don't get it, but this is the way so many of them think - that if a Republican or conservative says "that shouldn't be that way" it translates to "I will force it to not be that way". Because that's how they would do it. If President Trump says "oh you must try this meat loaf" it somehow means "I'm going to MAKE you try it". If he says he doesn't like kneeling for the National Anthem, it means he will BAN it.

Because that's how the left does it. If they think it shouldn't be, they put it into law or policy.
If they don't like it, they'll put an end to it.
And they project that mindset on others, because they don't know any other way of treating the issue.

Stacey Abrams did not watch the SOTU speech.
I admit, I didnt either (was feeling crummy and went to bed early). Anyone want to sum it up for me? I got some ideas from this thread but not enough to really understand what all was said.

Jobs and the economy are great - and that's going to keep going and get better.
Better trade deals.
Stronger foreign policy - going to meet with China about trade.
Bringing troops home - no never ending wars.
We are on fire with energy - now we are a net exporter.
Bipartisan was mentioned quite a bit - how both parties have items that they can work together on (lower drug prices, better healthcare, infrastructure).
Should not be killing babies in the womb past either 20 or 22 weeks (sorry I can't remember off the top of my head).
Women and minorities are doing better in the workforce and blue collar workers are earning more.
Compromise - Congress needs to work for the good of Americans - not the good of parties.
Border security - must have barrier/wall in places between border entries and more personnel there to patrol and help with processing, need to stop illegals committing crime in this country by stopping them from getting here. We do want lots of LEGAL immigrants to be able to come.
We will never be a Socialist country.

I feel like he really knocked it out of the park last night. He was very 'Presidential'. He threw items out there that you knew Democrats were on board with. It was hard or looked crazy for them not to clap or cheer.

Anyone else want to add or correct anything?

I went to bed during Abram's speech because I had an early morning spin class at the gym, but these people are crazy. I think that regular, middle of the road, reasonable American People see through it, too.

Didn't watch either. Teleprompter Trump is less believable that normal Trump. My guess would be the only folks who watched are they types on here...the 35%.

Interesting reading this thread...confirms everything I say about you all. The majority of this thread was the ridiculous fluff ones reads when really dumb people are commenting. Who gives a sh!t what facial expressions were on Nancy Peloisi's face or how many times the partisans got up to cheer? You've got to be some kind of super stupid not to know all that is scripted.

As for the context of the speech, what I see so far in the transcript is the continuation of his lies. It is really odd how/why his speechwriters would put such obviously and easily provable exaggerations and outright lies in a major national address. Almost every comment he made on the economy was wrong: we are not, by any measure in an "unprecedented economic boom". Wages are rising but much of that impact is due to states increasing the minimum wage and they certainly are not growing at the fastest pace in decades. The food stamp number is wrong. His claim about growing twice as fast as when he came into office was true in Q2 2018, was an overstatement for Q3 2018 and is most likely false for Q4 2018 (his shutdown has delayed the release but it is expected to be around 2.5). The unemployment rate is low and is due more to demographic changes and the actual percentage number to a low rate of participation in the labor force--5th grade math. More people are working than ever in our history? That's just stupid and occurs every year we are in economic expansion...

He's claiming that his Administration created the fracking boom??? Jesus...and you people believe this???

The optics of all those Democrat women cheering at a Trump SOTU....

Nancy looks furious.

Hey spitbubble, you do understand that those women in white who were cheering were elected and are serving in Congress as a repudiation of Trump??? No you don't get that do you? Odd neither did the President!

They weren't cheering for Trump, they were cheering to mock him....because his speech basically told them to do so!!

So let's throw one out to you.... This morning's CBS/You.gov survey had a WHOPPING 76% approval rate for the SOTU.

97% of Republicans and - get this - 82% of Independents approved of the speech!

I didn't even notice him using the teleprompter. He did a good job with that unlike Obama who looked like he was watching a tennis match while speaking. I am amazed that you didn't watch Abrams . Of course I didn't either I just assumed it would be irrelevant. You probably assumed the same thing. That's why you didn't watch. It's funny that the media when placing the camera on the ladies in white didn't seem to place those camera's on the 2 Muslims. I suppose they were there, but I never saw them. Did the one have the slave rag on her head? Do they make Burka's in white?

...those women in white....

Doing, I guess, their take on The Handmaid's Tale? Or was it a take on doctor's lab coats (Ralph Northam, Kermit Gosnell, etc.) in solidarity/support for their party's program of infanticide?

Well Phlegm, if you would have watched you would have known they weren't mocking him. But I see you are going by your daily talking point memo instead of facts, as usual.

Yes, they were panned a couple times. The one wearing the head covering was briefly caught on camera with her hands together in front of her face - almost as if she was praying?

Exactly. That's why Dem Senators bother judicial nominees about their personal opinions or religious beliefs: they can't conceive of unemotional decisions.

Republicans haven't banned abortion, yet Democrats ban straws they don't like.
