Do we have a SOTU thread?

Hey spitbubble, you do understand that those women in white who were cheering were elected and are serving in Congress as a repudiation of Trump??? No you don't get that do you? Odd neither did the President!

They weren't cheering for Trump, they were cheering to mock him....because his speech basically told them to do so!!

How would you know? You said yourself that you didn't watch it.

Doing, I guess, their take on The Handmaid's Tale? Or was it a take on doctor's lab coats (Ralph Northam, Kermit Gosnell, etc.) in solidarity/support for their party's program of infanticide?

Doesn't this white clothes stunt and the orchestrated up/down standing/sitting (at Aunt Nan's direction) pretty much reinforce the #NPC meme of the Left?

Yes, they were panned a couple times. The one wearing the head covering was briefly caught on camera with her hands together in front of her face - almost as if she was praying?
I missed that, Not sorry I did, but I did miss it.

Exactly. That's why Dem Senators bother judicial nominees about their personal opinions or religious beliefs: they can't conceive of unemotional decisions.

Republicans haven't banned abortion, yet Democrats ban straws they don't like.

This has been a pattern for at least as far back as Lincoln - in his famous letter to Greeley, where he outlines his opposition to slavery but maintains that if he could have saved the nation without ending slavery, he would have. And I'm incredulous at people reading that, seeing that he was not opposed to slavery, virtually ignoring everything he wrote and everything he did prior to that. Lincoln's position was that he served at the behest of the people - and THEY made the choice. It was his job to preserve the Union, but not his job to enforce a moral code he believed in with every fiber of his being.

So it happens EVERY Republican president, and as you observed, every judicial nominee who gets scrutinized - over abortion. And Roe v. Wade remains, because Republican presidents and nominees know what their JOB is - to defend the nation and its Constitution. Not transform the nation into something else.

If I don't want to eat in a noisy restaurant, hear a vulgar song on the radio, watch a degrading movie - I go somewhere else, I change the station, I don't go to the movie. I don't make it a point to make sure NO ONE ELSE CAN EITHER.

Not an original thought in the whole bunch. Owned and operated by the party.

Liz Shields (over at the PJMedia Daily Blog) said the white dress stunt reminded her of the Guilty Remnant cult from HBO's The Leftovers. Hah! I had forgotten about that.... Good catch, Liz. Would seem to fit....

Not in any particular order.
  • Overall, positive rhetoric.
  • Did anyone hear anything about deficit or national debt or over-spending?
  • Recognizing Matt Charles and Alice Johnson was a good gesture. Thanks Kim K!
  • "No Socialism" Camera zooms into Bernie Sanders
  • Hopefully Trump can get some bipartisan support for infrastructure improvements (though I highly doubt it). So far, it's been a campaign promise, and a talking point for his last SOTU, and nothing more after some initial planning.
  • Paid family leave got a half-hearted applause from the GOP and the Dems. Who woulda thought a GOP President would be pushing for this. No mention of that in this thread?
  • He still pushed for a border wall. As expected.
  • Trade. He claimed NAFTA was the worst trade deal ever but offered zero evidence of that. NAFTA increased GDP by about $50 billion per year. He talked about China and trade. The Tax Foundation found that by the end of last year, "we had already paid $42 billion in higher taxes due to tariffs."
I probably missed something but that's off the top of my head.

They can thank Ivanka for that. It's something she's been very vocal about, and is also something the feminazis have been clamoring for, but her getting Daddy to go for it will not be appreciated and she will be met with the same ugly hatred they've been spewing for more than two years now.

I hope they do meet him with resistance, honestly. Not because it has to do with Trump but because the government doesn't need to create another entitlement program.

I almost forgot another thing. Trump wants to wipe out AIDS. Not sure where that came from or if his speech writers just tossed that in there.

I agree, especially if they're going to make small business owners pay for it. Large corporations can absorb that cost, but Mom & Pops cannot.

Worth noting: Past SOTU speeches have included pledging massive sums of money to foreign countries. Obama did it; Bush did it; Clinton did it; etc. Trump did not pledge one dime to any foreign countries, that I heard. He pledged money toward Americans and helping us out.

$27.7 billion is requested for foreign aid in FY2019. In 2018, Trump signed a CR to fund the State Dept. to fund their (and foreign aid since it falls under the State Dept.) State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS) at over $54 billion. This was higher than the requested amount of almost $42 billion.

FY2019's request is actually lower than FY2018 because they won't be funding Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) for the first time since 2012. While the FY2019 request, assuming it's funded fulled, certainly decreases overall spending on foreign aid, it does not remove it altogether.
