DoD gives Norton AV away for use on personal machines too, not just GFE. But it's Norton AV...so yeah.

Skip that, download AVG or Avast for free, they work better and require fewer resources.


As for MS Office, its usually not free but at a pretty deep discount.

yeah, I have the chance to get any of them for free and still prefer AVG...I hate resource hogs.

Same here. We can buy the MS products for $20 also. When they started the offer, we only had 2003 on the corp PCs, but 2007 via the low-cost buy. We are now getting 2007 on the corp PCs.

Probably because it take five years or more from the time you put in the MAC request for software for them to finally push it to you. NMCI

We have a similar program @ my work .... Non Gov

it is called the Home Use Program .... where your basically covered by the license of your Office PC, to use "Office" Products at home ....

of course if you leave, you are supposed to uninstall the Program, but who is checking up on that .........

Yep, received my MS Office 2007 yesterday as a matter of fact.

Got the antivirus over a year ago.

License for the MS Office is for one computer, but the Norton Antivirus (which never expires) is for any computer "owned or purcchased".

I believe ALL fed employees can get free antivirus thru their department. I know Commerce and Transportation employees can. It protects the gov't network from virus' when employees telework.

The policy itself, which, by the way, seems to contradict the FAQs. The FAQs say that you can't use the products on a non-NMCI machine, even though you're connected to the NMCI network, but the pdf says exactly the opposite.

Further, the FAQs themselves seem to contradict one another (cf 4 and 12, I think it is).
