Does anyone know a good seamstress in the area?

Hello everyone! :)

I just moved in the area a couple months ago, so I wanted to get the area know better that's why I decided to join this forum. Obviously, this is my new post. I apologize if I'm already asking if someone could refer a good seamstress in the area who could do some alterations for my sister's wedding gown. We already went to the cleaners and they didn't seem to know their "stuff". They can't even give us an estimate, they said, they have to take a look at it first. My sister has got some embroidery and beads on her gown and she needs it taken in. We're actually hoping to find someone who handles wedding gowns or at least specializes in formal gowns. Any help will be very much appreciated!

Have a great day everyone!

:howdy: Welcome

can't really help ya, my mother was the bomb seamstress in the day but she's getting up there and doesn't reallly do much these days. She made my wedding dress.

Have you checked with any of the local bridal shops? That would be my first suggestion.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I went to Today's Bride and they don't have an in-house seamstress. She got her dress from a shop up in Annapolis, and they were charging her about $400-$500 just for the alteration. They told her that it's cheaper to go to an independent seamstress. I know, sewing is a very rare gift. I can sew a pillow or so, but not a dress! Your mother must be very gifted to be able to make wedding gowns! I'm sure I can find one in the area...I just have to keep looking. At the same time, I'm pretty sure that someone on here might have heard of someone who does gown alterations. I would also need alterations on my gown. She's getting married on June. It's hard to be the maid-of-honor...hehe!

Not a whole lot of help, but there is a place in St Mary's Square (off Great Mills Road) that I've heard does good alterations. The name is escaping me, and I have never used them myself. But if you were to drive by there it shouldn't be too hard to figure out who they are. Good luck.

Go give Rose Savage a call. She lives in Callaway, and works from her home under the name "Stitch -N-Time". 301-994-9339.

I'll look for that one too. Thanks a bunch, ladies! I will keep you posted.

Hey ladies! :)

I really appreciate all your replies. You're very warm and you try to help out as much as you can. I know I'm going to like it down here.

Anyway, I just talked to the seamstress. Her name is Alexandra and yes, she is from Wildewood. She lives in the Apartments of Wildewood. She actually gave me her website too and after seeing it, I think I'm sold...she has pictures of most of the stuff that she's done. Here's her site-- Exquisite Gowns--Gown Alterations, Custom-Made Dresses, Discount Couture-Quality Wedding Gowns, Bridesmaid Dresses

She even has a price list online too. I knew I would find someone. But I'll try to call the other ladies too to compare prices. I do like how I saw the stuff that she's done before. She also makes dresses, including bridal gowns from scratch. So far, her prices are pretty reasonable...at least compared to the bridal salon where my sister got her dress. They'll charge her almost $500 for take-in, hemming and bustling! Does that sound right? Alexandra only gave me $250 for all of that...that's almost half of what we were quoted for before.

What's wrong with living in an apartment?

Apartments of wildewood, that poor lady! she needs to move out of there!!

My sister and I met her in her home last week for alterations and I find the building really clean and well kept. She has no pets nor has a smoker in her house. She said, she's lived there for 4 years now without any problems. She's just trying to make an honest living while raising her family and kids...I just think this comment is very uncalled for.
