Does God expect perfection?

No! The Bible says that we all have sinned and come short of God's glory. In the course of our day-to-day lives, we all fail God, we all make choices that we wish we could change. But God knows our heart, and all He has ever asked you to do, is your best.

1 John 1

<sup id="en-NASB-30546">5</sup>This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. <sup id="en-NASB-30547">6</sup>If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2A, I suppose you are presenting this thread from a question in a previous post. I think His standard is perfection, and He expects us to live up to that standard THROUGH THE SPIRIT, though He knows we will fall from time to time, which is where grace comes in. "...To obey is better than sacrifice" - I Samuel 15:22

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." - Matt. 5:48. We can only accomplish with His Spirit inside us through love.

Why set a standard that no one can meet?

It gives an ideal to shoot for. With the Holy Spirit's help, we can learn to love God and other's more perfectly.

Thanks for the explanation.:yay: However, for certain people that can lead to feeling unaccomplished in life. For instance, if I have a standard that I want to meet and I don't accomplish that standard I will feel...well...unaccomplished.

I think that was 2A's point, even though we fall short, God still see's our hearts efforts.

I know Dems but the unanswerable and debatable question I am pondering is, why would he make a standard that everyone falls short of?

"That's why we're here. As worship leaders, we're called to assist others in that pursuit…" But, he says, "we've got to get our 'loves straight' in order to get our lives straight to be able to motivate and encourage others in expressing their love to God. We're called not just to direct worship, but to model it as "lead worshipers."

2nd A, can you identify with this thought?

Perfect in God's eyes, not our own.
JMHO, but we are God's children; He knows and knew from the beggining, that we would never be perfect.

Think of Him from a parental point of view, and it makes more sense.

Sorry Penn, I am at the stage where I just have many questions. Why would God then create us if we were almost a waste of time being not perfect in his eyes?

My parents always tell me they want me to do better than they did, be more 'perfect' in this discussion.

The point is it is nothing we accomplish or can accomplish on our own; it is something God has done for us completely and that we only have to accept.

So in other words, It's God's fault that we're not perfect?

Hmmmm, depends on how much you take on faith, believe in the Bible, etc.

The story is He knew exactly what was going to happen to each and everyone of us. He knows what we're going to say or do - even before WE do.

Why would God create us if we were a waste of time? He knew it would be rough in the beggining; (and that also depends on our acceptance of Him.)

Possible answer? We are evolving - we are a work in progress. He knows that.

Should He have given up on us? You'll have to ask Him someday.

Current and future perfection is to be striven for, but in our human condition will not be attained. Absolute perfection is impossible since all have sinned and have already become imperfect.
