Does this bother anybody else?

One of the main things that bothers me is their claim to be putting a lot of money into infrastructure.

Now if they were placing the money in drilling for oil off Florida where the Red Chinese are drilling in from Cuba ,or off the California coast, or in ANWR, or renewing some of those wells in Texas that they capped off or anywhere there is oil to be found I wouldnt be upset at all.
Of course the Government is busy regulating where they can make oil discoveries and use them, and they wont let them invest in refineries, so what is this infrastructure? Is it tearing down a perfectly good service station and replacing it with a quik mart?

Is it finding oil and drilling for it in countries that will throw them out when the oil starts flowing like Venezuela did? Like the Saudi's and Kuwaiti's did? Like Iran did?

Lets drill oil in this country, lets start using synthetic fuels made from coal instead of food stuffs, making food higher. Lets get it from shale sands and garbage and any other thing that can be converted. Lets get the hell out of this dependence on Middle-easern countries so they can go back to raising goats and sheepherding and stop buying weapons and arms with our dollars.

I'm thinking about investing stock in oil and gold.

You should have bought gold in Sept.

now it is trading above $ 900 an oz ........ long term it will probably go up over 1k

I'd wait personally till it at least dropped below 900 again

Historical Gold Charts and Data - London Fix

check historical for yourself

also don't forget silver is a cheaper buy in ........ but also seems to be record setting levels ....

also some of this:

90% Silver Bags

and these:

PAN AMERICAN, Silver items on eBay.com ebay is not necessarily the best source - but everyone seems to sell above "SPOT" anyway so ..........

along with 1 oz rounds ...... don't buy "collectable" coins for inflationary survival ....

might be nice for a rainy day

:banghead: You don't buy a stock when it is up! Buy low, sell high. If oil companies are currently recording record profits, do you think the stock value will rise much more? You're too late to cash in on this uptrend in oil stocks.

What should bother you more is the government extortion on oil. Not only do they tax the bejeezus out of us they tax the oil companies as well.

And all of you preaching that the government should regulate oil prices have a pretty miopic view of reality. Oil is sold worldwide, the demand is high, thus the price is high. What do you think will happen if the US gov't tries to regulate prices? It won't matter a bit to the oil companies, they have willing buyers elsewhere. Our price is also driven up due to you greenies and the demand for specific processing, not to mention everyone's head spins off when there is any mention of building new refineries. The last refinery the US built was in 1976.

You cannot solely lay the blame for the oil prices on the oil companies. They have nothing to do with the cost of refining, nor do the reep the rewards of our ever increasing taxes on oil. If you want to lay blame, blame it on our wonderful, dysfunctional, government.

The Tax Foundation - ExxonMobil's Record Profits -- And Record Taxes

Also read this and look at what they pay in taxes.

This is the main reason we are paying so much.

All your points are valid but that does not change the fact that they made (profit) 40 Billion dollars last year alone...

I say do this.... Regulate gas and home heating prices and reduce the taxes charrged on them as well...

P.S. I am the furthest thing from a Liberal but I am also against corporations robbing us.

It's not the corporations robbing us, it's the US Government. Despite the high cost of oil to the consumers, they continue to propose MORE tax on fuel.

This is true... But it is both the government and the oil companies...

Plus some of the oil we pay for is actually owned by US Citizens yet we pay..

There was and stll remains a pool of talent in this country which can rid ourselves of this extorted dependency. However, the government refuses to give any more than lip service to help these people out. If the corporations do, they just hold the information out until they figure a way to profit from it themselves or the frustrated inventor goes elsewhere and sadly usually that is to a foreign government which takes the ideas and then gouges us.
Example, the transistor. An American invention sold to the Japanese and then sold right back to us.
How many have we turned away in short sighted decisions?
Brazil..BRAZIL!!!!!..compared to us a third world economy, turned things about for themselves when they decided to go home grown.
I have nothing against profit...its what drives us, but there is a fine line between using that same profit to ease our burdens here and filling someone elses's desire for an in your face lifestyle.
:buttkick: Your ideas are excellent, bu what is the chance of them given a chance?

Agreed...but if it interferes with instant profit, how much of a real chance do you think you will get ?
