I think the real reason is because its a Mercedes-Benz though. The people who buy cars like these could care less about the difference between $100k and $1 million.

Another real reason is that the MB's produced by the AMG division are completely hand-built.

Saw one at the somewhat local racetrack recently:

A vette does have great peformance, and I am sure that it can easily and relativily cheaply be modified to perform like a McLaren SLR but I won't bust on the McLaren and say that the car is not worth it.

My vette is a fun driver... The price to performance ratio makes it a much better value. But I wouldn't kick the AMG McLaren out of my garage! Don't think I'll have that worry any time soon... :ohwell:

"To be sure, the Greatest Car in the World has to be fast, but it should also be able to function as a car. The promise of the SLR is that it is the complete package."- Esquire Magazine

:killingme Damn, I sure hope so!!! :killingme

(but... it wouldn't hurt my head a bit to be resting my ass in it for a year or two... )

Actually, that highlights the problem of the Lotus. It still uses the same design after all the this time and is supposed to be a PITA to drive comfort wise. Therefore, it may be fast but it sucks to drive for any period of time (according to what I have read... not that I wouldn't take one as a gift).

Hope you are enjoying the show if you continued to watch it. Judging by your post time, you did not catch much of the 55. This is a great British show ('Top Gear').

Wow, I didn't realize the SLR's construction consisted of using so much carbon fiber. It must be extremely rigid. It also has F1 car style brakes. Lap for lap, not many cars would be able to hang with it.
