I have Vista. It has its idiosyncrocies, but nothing you can't get used to.

The major thing I don't like is the translucent appearance of the desktop settings. I have Vista on my laptop and really haven't invested the time to check into changing it, but it's annoying nonetheless.

I hate, hate, HATE Vista for the memory-hogging, bloated operating system it is. :burning: I just bought a desktop system with XP and will be transitioning over to that shortly. :yay:

Vista is a memory hog but it's not that bad. I have 3 GB RAM and it goes fine. Vista's only annoying qualities are the extra security, which you can knock out with some preference updates. Basically everything else is manageable and it has some upgrades. I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid Vista, I'm happy enough with it.

You mean the transparency setting under Right-click -> Personalize -> Window Color and Appearance? I've left mine on.

I'll take the side of those who like it. I moved up from an ancient system running Win98, skipping over XP and the others, and I did not have much trouble adjusting. Most of the old stuff is in similar places in Vista, it seems to me. It has been very stable and fast for me; I am running with 4GB RAM, so I guess that helps.

If you buy Vista preinstalled, it's excellent. Make sure you have 2GB of RAM ( I bought an extra 1GB chip at BestBuy when I bought my Vista computer), and you're good to go.

Vista got a bad rap because of underpowered machines being upgraded. A clean Vista machine (with 2 GB RAM) is sweet.

Running Vista Premium with 4GB on this machine, it runs well. The only problem I have run into is a lot of my XP software does not like to work properly on it even if I run the compatibility wizard.

I think it really depends on what your doing .... and if your buying a Saturn for internet and email ....

or a Saleen Mustang for Gaming ....

if your not in a hurry Win 7 is probably coming out this yr .... with rumored offers of free upgrades from Vista to Win 7 so wait a few more months

Vista is the reason I'm not buying a new computer yet. I'll wait until they bring Windows 7 out.

Vista and Micro$oft are the reasons why I decided to dive into the Linux world. Ubuntu is very easy to install and use. It's not your crumudgon's OS anymore. Pluss its FREE!!

I do agree that Vista runs ok if your machine is RAM'ed up, plus, atleast a dual core processor.

I don't hate micro$oft, just tired of payin to much for too little.

I do hate Norton though. I will NEVER buy their products again!

Vista is fine. Not worth the upgrade from XP unless you are a gamer or graphical designer. Just turn off Aero and UAC and you will be set.

VISTA needs 2G plus.

Sheesh. Doesn't anyone know how to write software anymore? The weenies coming out of college all assume that cpu, memory, and bandwidth is limitless. The average home PC wastes more CPU cycles than existed in the world in the 70's. I used to write so everything, data and program, fit in 25k. When the first IBM PC hit, no one would possible ever need more than 640k.

Software bloat big time.

We will not use Vista at our office; too unstable, slow, and too much of a resource hog. It is better now, but still not good. Hopeful for Windows 7, but I am a Linux guy, Fedora for me, all the way.

Vista crashes a LOT. I got it pre-installed on a new machine and it crashes on me at least once per day.

It's also not compatible with my printer/scanner combo or my digital camera software, which is a common problem. I managed to find patches to fix both hardware issues, but it doesn't work the same way and I liked the old way better.
