Does Windows Vista..

Vista crashes a LOT. I got it pre-installed on a new machine and it crashes on me at least once per day.

It's also not compatible with my printer/scanner combo or my digital camera software, which is a common problem. I managed to find patches to fix both hardware issues, but it doesn't work the same way and I liked the old way better.

Have you got the service packs for it? SP2 fixed pretty much everything wrong with vista

There's a sp2? Is it automatically installed? Or do you have to go get it like you did with sp3 in XP?

suck or is it OK. I am going to be getting a new computer soon and windows Vista will be the preinstalled operating system. I think I like XP better.

Vista gets an undeserved bad rap. If you go in and change the interface to Windows classic, the average dummy couldn't tell they weren't using XP till they got one of the Vista security prompts.

The new Windows coming out soon is built on the underpinnings of Vista, that should tell you something.

Just bought a new computer from Dell that has Vista. It looks weird, but nothing you can't get used to. Change is good! :dye:

VISTA needs 2G plus.

Sheesh. Doesn't anyone know how to write software anymore? The weenies coming out of college all assume that cpu, memory, and bandwidth is limitless. The average home PC wastes more CPU cycles than existed in the world in the 70's. I used to write so everything, data and program, fit in 25k. When the first IBM PC hit, no one would possible ever need more than 640k.

Software bloat big time.

We will not use Vista at our office; too unstable, slow, and too much of a resource hog. It is better now, but still not good. Hopeful for Windows 7, but I am a Linux guy, Fedora for me, all the way.
:buddies:Right on good sir!

Vista with 2 gigs plus, sp1 (possibly sp2beta) makes it very nice. 1 gig of RAM an you are suffering.

Stop Staring!!!!!
The start up (desktop) and applications are different.

You can set it back to be a bit more like older version.

JUst right click the Task Bar at the bottom then Select properties and paly around in there. You might be able to get it a bit more to your liking

I am planning on buying another Dell desktop. Not sure which one yet. I do not need a gaming computer just something to surf the net and pay bills online etc.
