Does your daycare ...

Yes as far as I know, when my son was almost 3 his daycare provider never warned me that she wouldn't take him but he ended up being completely out of diapers the weekend before his 3rd birthday.

When my kids started daycare where I worked (NASA/GSFC), the age to start was 32 months and they had to be potty trained.

Take children over 3 that aren't potty trained?
Yes or no?

Yes. However, I came across with one daycare provider two years ago and she charge $2.00 a day for non-potty trained kids over 2 years old.

I didn't hire her as my daycare provider on that reason and other reason was that she charged $5.00 per a minute after your normal pick up time. For example, if you get off at 4:00 pm and you get there by 4:10 pm to pick up your kid, and you arrived at 4:11 pm, she still charged you for $5.00 for that minute late even though her daycare closed at 5 pm everyday.

That contract she shown me told me that she is only in it for $$$.

In business, we call it "overtime." Well deserved in daycare. They HAVE to set limits or people will take advantage.

:yeahthat: Most daycares will allow for a child to be there for 10 hours per day at their normal rate. It is only fair that they get paid more for the extra time. On average most daycares allow for 15 extra minutes and anything over that they charge a fee. I think everywhere that my kids have been it's been like $1 per minute per child or a flat $25 fee. Most will understand an not charge if it's an emergency or a bad traffic back up. I've yet to have to pay the fee. I've only been late a few times in the past few years and it's always been due to traffic. I had one daycare that would watch my son each time I went into labor with my girl and not charge me. But, we had a close personal relationship.

I totally understand that. You will have to see her contract to get your eyes popping....

She even charged $5.00 for dropping your kids before your drop off time (for example, her daycare open at 6:30 am, but you don't drop off until 7:00 am and you dropped the kid off at 6:59 am, you are still charged $5.00 for a minute early), $5.00 for a minute late at the time you normally drop off after you drop off your kids, $2.00 per a day for non-potty trained kids and if they poops, there is another $2.00 fee for each poopy diapers in a day, etc.

That's why I said it in the way I read it, it sounded like she is only in it for $$$. I found other daycares that have a set fee from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. They do not accept children before 6:30 am no matters what the reasons are, and if you are late after 5 pm, there is a late fee for that. I'm FINE with that because you can worry less, stop stressing so much even if you are a minute late or early, or worry about if your kids pooped in the diaper/pulls up. The worst part is that your watch and her clock can be different and she doesn't care what your watch say. She only will go by her CLOCK and we can't even see her Clock to see the time. Also, this lady doesn't care if you are stuck in the traffic or something that is out of your control. She charged $175 a week plus all the extra fees. If I hired her as a daycare provider for my kid, I will have no paycheck to take home to pay my bills because my whole paycheck will go to her.

BTW, this daycare provider was opening her daycare for first time.

I found other daycare provider that charged $150 a week from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm with no other extra fees except for late fees for after 5:00 pm. She is not in it for $$$ and she just want to be able to stay home with her kids and make a living to pay her bills. :yay:

If you did not go with this provider how do you know so much about her? How do you know where her clock is? I have heard of other providers charging for changing diapers if the kid is over a certain age. It is b/c they only charge for a toddler rate but changing diapers is considered an infant duty. I see nothing wrong with that. Would you go to your hair dresser and ask them to color your hair for the same cost as a cut?

To answer your questions:

I met her at her home and interviewed her. She told me her rules and the contract. She shown me where her clock is and it is in the kitchen on the oven. We can not see the clock from front door because the kitchen is way back of the house.

My son wasn't even 2 years old at the time when I interviewed her and he was still considered a baby. She was going to charge me and other parents for each poopy diapers. She was telling me when he turn 2 on his birthday, this rates will be in effective on this date.

It paid to interview daycare providers to know where they stand on thier contracts, what's their "rooms" looked like (the ones that the kids will be in all day), and build a healthy relationship with the provider. All parents should build healthy relationship with the provider because it is the kids' second home away from home. Also, all parents should interview the daycare providers before placing the child in thier care, so you don't start off on wrong foot because you don't know the rules and finding yourself deep in debt or trouble due to lack of communication.

No, I wouldn't because she told me upfront what's her charges are just like all of the hair dressers do. I do have a personal and favorite hair dresser, and I love her because she is wonderful and very nice lady. My son loves getting his hair cut from her. She do charge separately for hair cut, hair dyes, highlighted, perms/curls, styled, shampooed, etc. Also, I had never my hair dyed because I don't need to. :yay:

I believe my day-care lady just recently took a little boy who is over 3 who isn't potty-trained, so my answer is yes. But she is working with him to get him trained.

absolutely! We have our Doctor appointments, and our lives to live too. I close @ 5:30. If you come @ 5:31 you owe me $15.00 or don't bother coming back tomorrow.

I will definately work with the kids too, but when the parents tell me that "she rules the roost, and she changes her pull-ups herself" piss on that. That kid can talk and change herself, she can use the potty. Who is the parent and who is the kid?

There are so many parents out there that let the kids run the show. My kids try it from time to time and I say no way. I am the mom and you are the kid. My youngest as gotten to the point when I say no to something he'll say, "Mom. Just being the mom."

I guess I am lucky or maybe because I have a home day-care lady and she only has about 3 other kids to look after. My husband drops them off around 7:15am but she will take them early if they happen to get there early or late if they get there later. No questions/no fee. I pick them up around 2:45pm but will call her if I am late leaving work or stuck in traffic and won't be there until after 3pm. She's fine with it. No questions/no fee. Most of the time she runs her errands with the kids along for the ride so I guess she has more free time and doesn't need to have such a strict schedule. Like I said, I am lucky.

I don't charge extra for a non-potty trained child. I charge by age. I don't believe in "making" a child potty train before they are ready because they just have more accidents that way and the fact is, if they REALLY don't want to go, they can hold themselves until they explode. (and it ain't pretty)

And I don't want parents coming in here saying their child is "potty-trained" when they aren't really, just because the parent wants the reduced fee.

I can see it now, Parents claims little Johnny is potty-trained, at home, but acts like he never saw a toilet here, so his parents try to make it out that it's my fault.

I've also discovered that different people have different definitions of "trained." I know one person who claimed that their child was trained...except they had to wear a diaper when they went out because they had "accidents" and in the car because they couldn't hold it for 2 miles to daycare. Oh, and they also had "accidents" at grandma's house....and... and... and....but the child is "potty-trained." BTW, that child was 5 and still wore a diaper on car trips because she wouldn't give enough warning for mom to find somewhere to pull over. But she was "potty-trained" at 2.
