Dog Fights

What do you do when you have more than one dog and they really, really go at it? Not just the usual stuff, but they actually go at it and try to draw blood? I had an aunt that had dogs that used to go at it until they had to get rid of one. That's not an option. Tonight Bailey and Peanut actually got into it bad and Peanut was the ragdoll... she's still up here on the couch with me and tail between the legs. Bailey is the big dog and oddly she's the passive one but tonight it all came to a head where she went after the little dog and turned the tables. I always thought it odd the little dog was the alpha dog and big dog cowtowed but ... not anymore:shocking: what happens now? :frown:

Call Cesar?
Well...you could check out Can We Help You Keep Your Pet? - tons of good info about multiple dog families and how to deal w/ any problem you may encounter.
If they had a knock down drag out fight, I wouldn't leave them alone together unsupervised. I'd also check into a good dog trainer/behaviorist - let me know if you need some phone numbers, I know a couple trainers that are really good at those issues.
Good luck!

Help "Invisible Dogs"
To break up a dog fight grab the dog by the hind legs (they will usually let go). Now, that will "normally" work, unless the other dog keeps coming on, then try grabbing the other dog, hopefully one of the dogs will stop when the other quits. (disclaimer** it doesn't always work)

Over the 9 years I have had my 2 beagles, they have gone after each other a few times. I usually try to grab one, or stick my foot inbetween the 2 of them. I have gotten bit bad several times doing this, but it stops the fight. Once it is broken up, they usually act like the best of friends again...

Same for her, they've never gone at it before. They are the best of friends again like nothing happened and Bailey is back to being passive to little Peanut. Peanut is the dominant dog. I think Bailey stood up for herself put her in her place and now things are back to normal. I don't know what they were fighting over I was in another room when it started but came in to break it up and they were both going at it. It didn't last long. I just remember my aunt had a really bad problem and was wondering what folks usually do. My aunts dogs were both spayed. Also was wondering if flareups between two dogs are normal or not.

You need to be the dominate dog. Watch Dog Whisperer!! You have to flip the little one in front of the big one. Don't try this until you have seen it done!!
