I've heard some interesting information, but I don't know if it correct. I've had a couple of customers tell me St. Mary's Vet and Top Notch's groomer is leaving and they are not making any appointments. Does anybody know about this?

Just the groomers are leaving to make room for 2 more Dr.'s
the last time I used their groomer, they shaved my dog like a poodle cut, I was not happy.

The reason I ask is I own Gentle Touch Dog Grooming in Hollywood [I'm not ashamed to get a plug in here] and I keep a list of other groomers by my phone for callers who have breeds I don't groom or who are looking for a cat groomer. I'm also a little nosy.

Well I certainly hope you are WAY cheaper than PetCo-- I just took my toy poodle who weighs 5 lbs to get groomed (the whole 9 yards) and the lam-blasted bill was $72.00. Granted she was shorn short like I asked, but c'mon $72? Thats robbery! And what can you do AFTER the services are rendered?

I have gone up to $35 starting price on hair cuts..your dog would have been $35 used to be $25...that seems so so high...

BUT someone called me the other day for a newfy I told them $65 at least then she said petco told her $55 then she said she wanted it an inch all over.. :lmao: I sent it to you SPINNER... :killingme :killingme :killingme cuz I love you... :huggy:

I won't comment on the way other groomers work, but I will tell you the way I do. When you call for information I will tell you the price your breed starts at and what it includes. For instance Poodles- Toy and Mini start at $35 and includes bath, ear cleaning, nail clipping, anal gland expressing, blow drying and clipping. If you come in and it is going to be more because the dog is totally matted or you are trying to pass a collie off as a sheltie then I'll tell you before you leave the dog. I throughly go over what you want done until I have a clear idea of how you want the dog groomed. The exception is if it has to be stripped because of mats, not much choice there. All my dogs are blow dried on the table, I don't do any crate drying. I only have one or two dogs here at a time and I only keep them for about 2 hours. Because I am a small shop you are dealing directly with me, I am the owner/groomer/receptionist/groundskeeper/secretary. The downside is sometimes you have to wait for an appointment.

When you call a shop ask questions, do you crate or blow dry? What is the starting price? How high can it go? What does it include? How long will he have to stay? If you have an older dog I would suggest you ask if he could be done straight through and then pick him up on time so there is a minium of stress. There are lots of things owners can do to make grooming a good experience. I love what I do, I can't imagine doing anything else.

Great Groomer

Just wanted to let everyone know...I took our dog to Gentle Touch Grooming and she is fantastic. We have taken Widget to Petco a few times before but was not real happy with the work. Would take anywhere from 6-8 hours to get a call that she was done. The price was too much and the services asked to be done were not done at all or were done only half way.

Well, Gentle Touch is totally the opposite. I dropped her off at 9 am and she was ready by 10:30. Her cut was perfect, the right length and she did her tail and feet. Her nails were clipped (we weren't sure if Petco was actually doing it or not) and she had the cutest Halloween bandana on. She also seemed very at ease not stressed or upset. And to top all that off it was only $40. She is definatley going back and I would recommend her to anyone.:yahoo:

My Mom has a rescued Newfy and Petsmart/Waldorf charges her close to $100 I heard her complain, although she did say the groomer does a GREAT job.
