Where do you get the Castille Soap & Tea Tree Oil? That sounds interesting, and would like to know how to make it.
I bought the castille online at Amazon. Tea tree oil, you can find in any drugstore or Target. His skin is a little dry so I add some vitamin E to the mix.
1 C castille or any other mild soap
1 C water
1/2 C apple cider vinegar
1/4 C vitamin E oil (olive oil works too)
A few drops of tea tree oil
Mix and store in a plastic bottle.
You will know when he needs grooming. You will want to keep an eye on his ear hair... you may have to learn to pluck the ear fur in order to avoid ear infections from packed in fur... and you will want to keep his foot pats trimmed... especially if you have hardwood floors and/or stairs as the extra furry feet cause loss of traction. In the winter the extra fur between the toes will get ice balls stuck in them when he goes out so you need to check his feet when he comes in during the winter. Other than that, as long as you are regularly brushing him I can think of no reason that he has to be regularly trimmed. He is quite handsome!
Oh yeah! Hiis exitarium will need to be trimmed on a regular basis too or else you will eventually find a furry nest of dingleberries. Not sure if this is true with this breed, but there is the butt area too.
He's adorable, Vrai!
Spinner brought up a good point - keep an eye on the eye boogers - that's one place that'll matt up pretty fast.
Thank you.
I just picked his boogers tonight - they crop up pretty fast and get all hard and ooky. Our nightly ritual is a brushing and booger picking.
you can also put a tad bit of vasoline under the eye to keep the boogies from sticking

If his skin is already a little dry, you need to cut way back on the bathing. (vet suggested I only bath twice a year ) You may think you are helping his dry skin, but it may be making it worse buy stripping his natural oils. Also, sounds like you are feeding him good food if you got it from Pepper's, but remember dry skin could be an indication of a food allergy. Talk to FF and find out if the food is grain free etc. that you are feeding him.
Does he smell bad? Is that why you are bathing him so often? I have one that always smells bad. I can bathe him and by the next day he stinks again. I use baby wipes to keep his face clean and fresh so he doesn't smell as bad without over bathing him.
what does he smell like after you bath him? yeast like smell....
you may need a antimicrobial shampoo ... I have to use it on the hounds to remove the yeast and crud from their skin
not yeast. He tears alot, so it's a sour smell. It's not his whole body, just his face.
I would still use an antimicrobial on him.. I know that smell also.. hounds get it and lib gets it
