I guess if it works, do it. I'd have hit the dog with the stick. I wouldn't have done it hard enough to hurt her, but just so the owner would know that you would like to walk your dog in peace without worrying for you and your dog's safety.

Yesterday the owner was out there and as she was running down the driveway and barking at us, I called her by name and gave her a treat and told the owner that the treat keeps the dog from chasing me. He said, "great" or something to that effect. I could hit him with a stick and he wouldn't get it.
