I'm kind of a noobie, but don't you do grooming? I have been taking him to Petco since I have got him, every six weeks. Unknowingly he got sick the 2nd to last time I took him, fever and massive scratching to the bleeding point, not putting two and two together I took him again 6 weeks later and he had the same problem. He was sooo sick I had to take him to the vet and he was on antibiotics, steroids etc.... I will never take him there again!!! He has bad allergies and we have figured that out over time spending a bunch of money on different food etc.

This happened to my neighbor's Yorkie at Petco about 2 months ago. Almost exactly the same symptoms, except that their dog also had trouble walking too. That is so strange--I wonder if it has happened to others?? She had to fight with them to pay the vet bill. She had been taking him there since he was a pup with no problems-I wonder if they changed products?

I wouldn't take my dogs there either and have heard great things about Paso. I wish grooming was in my budget!

Help, our dog smells like a dog, which my hubby and i can't stand. I will elaborate, he is a yorkie and a great family pet but we let him on the couch since we got him from the breeder and recently we had to go out and get new couches b/c the couches reeked of dog. We have since not allowed the dog on the new couch. We have a split foyer and have kept him downstairs when we are not home to retrain him to not lay on the couches all day. We have had success with this by buying him a doggy bed for both up and downstairs and he seems to be doing ok with it. We make sure to give him the same attn. since he has been raised a lap dog. Since we seem to have that under control, he sleeps in our sons bed every night, our son doesn't mind it but I feel like when we walk by our sons room we can smell the dog. We are getting ready to move into a new house and I would like the dog to have his own sleeping area without crating him. I feel like he advanced from that once he was potty trained and I do NOT want to punish him, any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just to give you an idea of the new house for suggestions, 4 levels, finished basement, main level, bedroom level and 4th floor game/guest level. I don't want to punish him or anything but I want to stop stinking up the house. we love our dog and bathe him once every two weeks like the vet said but sheesh.

Are you sure the odor is from the dogs fur or skin? Maybe it is an ear issue or an anal gland problem. Something just doesn't make sense......you sound like you've done all the right things.

You know, you just reminded me. When he was sick and I took him to the vet they emptied his anal gland. I wander if he isn't able to do it on his own anymore.

Mine was walking either, he seemed to sit with one leg cocked out too. I never said anything to Petco but he will not go back EVER

I didn't read the whole thread so not sure if it was posted............but what are you feeding him? Poor quality food will give dogs odors. Feed him a quality food and give it several weeks for body to de toxify. Grocery store food is not quality. Try Wellness, Innova, Royal Canin, Natures Miracle........Some of these can be found at Petco. Whats not at Petco may be at Petsmart.

Whatever groomer you take him to make sure you tell them he has allergies ans to us a hypo-allergenic shampoo and no perfume or finishing spray. I don't use either. Are they expressing his glands? Maybe that's what is bothering him, it irritates some dogs.

smelly dog

Try taking him to a groomer who knows what they are doing, there are many great shampoos for dogs with skin problems. One I would recommend is Nova Pearls.
Try the people at Pet Paradise in Leonardtown, they have lots of experience and will work with you.

Maybe your dog has some sort of skin infection. My dog was smelling up the house even after every bath. I took her to the vet and even though you couldn't see it, she had a skin infection. She never scratched, flaked, and I couldn't see a thing. Vet put her on antibiotics and within a week you could "smell" the difference. Good luck!
