Can someone give me an explantaion as to why my dog will carry his food the carpet, piece by piece to eat it?

He will sit at feet and whine while I cook, but if I offer anything to him, he won't sit unless I go in the living room.

WTH? :confused:

He has an inferiority complex or something like that. He puts you as alpha dog and will not eat until you are gone. Do you have another dog?

Friend says perhaps the floor is too cold. The carpet is softer and warmer. :shrug: Don't know.

What kind of dish do you have? :popcorn:

Dogs are pack animals. They need one of two things. They need to have a leader or they want to lead. If you don't show that you are the dominant one they feel the need to become that dominant one, the leader. So by eating on the carpet, he's trying to tell you, this is where we eat. He is just trying to be the leader.

The alpha dog thing makes sense:yay: I have put his food out on the porch so he'll eat outside. I let him out every hour on the run and keep his kennel by the same door.

He's very skittish.. Jumps at every noise and won't even come in the room if the boy is playing. He's very attached to me and wants to follow me to every room.


Now I need to get him to stop jumping on people and furniture:ohwell:

It's been a long time since I had a dog..he's so sweet and cute. I think I'm in :love:

My Malamute used to do this. He would line his food around the base board of the room and eat when we went to bed. My Germ. Shep wont eat until we tell her, and the Chi just eats whenever (she is very spoiled by us and the Germ. Shep)

Geez... you people have it all wrong. It doesn't have anything to do with dominance or anything like that. The dog is just trying to get a little fiber in his diet.

OK, my dog has been grounded for three days. I've had him for months and he hasd been great about not going potty in the house.. Suddenly, about two eeks ago, he's decided to piddle and poop on the carpet.

I put him outside on the run after he pooped on the carpet and I had a rug on the back porch. The little turd goes to the bathroom on the rug, not one but FIVE times in a row!!

WTF?

And why, oh why does he want to run away everytime he get's loose.. Not just going for a run or running around the yard for half an hour. but he wants to disappear for hours!!

GRR!!

He is pissed at you for something, try to figure out what happens before or around the time he goes, is there a new person there? Have you tried crate training him, it worked for my dogs.

As far as the running, he is a beagle, they have a "nose" (ah-hem) for trouble that gets them in trouble. All scent hounds have this, give him a job, get him one of those "Buster Cubes" or "Plush Puppies Hide-A-Squirrel" to keep him busy. Use his nose, get something with your scent on it and hide it, have him track it down.

I had a couple of requests for the Plush Puppies hide-a-whatever. The people that asked me to get them said their dogs will entertain themselves for hours. I didn't get the Buster Cubes though they look equally as challenging. PM me if you want more info.
