Dogs Chewing on Deer Antlers

Within one day of arriving at our home, the 5-month old German Shepherd found a set of deer antlers in the garage. She thought she had a PRIZE and we didn't have the heart to take them away from her. She licked and chewed on them for days.

She just "found" them again when we moved the chair they had gotten stashed behind. She's now 11 months old, and is really chewing on them. The noise it makes is horrible, sounds like she's going to break all her teeth off!

I can't find much info on the web. Anyone know if antlers are safe for a large dog to chew on?

She really would like to have them back. The website that sells them looks great.

I gave one set back to her, but it still sounds like she's going to break a tooth...

you can probably train her to find sheds. All you have to do is start hiding her antler and have her find it. then in the late winter early spring go out hiking and let her work. Most dogs repsond well to having a job, this could be hers.

That's a great idea!
