Dogs Have Emotions Like Humans

Not a news flash for those of us with any attachment to our pets, but:

Man’s best friend may have more in common with his or her human owners than previously thought.

For the past two years, neuroscientist Gregory Berns of Emory University has been conducting a series of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans on canines – including his pet terrier Callie – and he says his findings show that dogs have the same capacity to experience emotions, such as love and attachment, as humans.

I just ordered the book "Why dogs love us" from Amazon. Its out 10/22/2013.
Yes, I'm one of the old fashioned people who like to actually hold a book and turn the pages when reading. I knew dogs had emotions, Capt. Morgan is at the door everyday when I come from work, with a toy in her mouth and a wiggly butt and just as happy as she can be because...I CAME HOME!!

Now if I could get my husband to react that way...well, except the wiggly butt part. :yahoo:

You mean to tell me there are people out there who can look at a dog and not tell they are full of emotion? I guess maybe I am the weirdo then but I see emotions in all animals. The saddest is when there is a dead squirrel on the road and there is another standing over it. Like the live one is wondering why his buddy won't get up.

Yes. I agree, I think I see the emotions as well, and always have. And Lenny is a very expressive dog; he has a disapproving stare, a meaningful sideways glance, he cocks his head to and fro when listening carefully to me, and when he senses I'm unhappy or sick he comes to me and tries to comfort me. I know when he feels anxiety, I know when he feels content, and I know when he's depressed - I can even tell when he's bored. And there have been times when I've lost my temper with him, and the pleading, hurt look in his eyes broke my heart.
