Door Locks, Remote Key

Stupid us.

We have a locked vehicle, a lost key fob somewhere in a rainy field, and a second key fob in an unknown location.....it may actually be in the same locked vehicle as far as I know.

Question for you: Can you lock a key fob in the vehicle while using a second key fob to actually lock the door? Doesn't the key fob in your hand not allow you to lock the vehicle if there is a key fob still within the vehicle?

lesson to learn: Never trust a7-year old with a key fob on a dark, rainy night, for they will surely get lost/misplaced. :ohwell:

Yes you can, no it doesn't, and 7-year-old offspring are not to be trusted with anything that matters to the rest of us.

Oh, that. I figured he was out smoking pot with his buddies. That's what I used to do in dark rainy fields when I was his age.

Amateur.

Way back when, that is what you did. Today's kids are much more advanced for their age. :yay:

Power with Control
As if there would be a GM product at the B/BG garage? Slightly cheaper than a locksmith might be one of those magnets you can hang below a bumper and do some driving around the field.

Yeah you can lock it, but mine dings at me if I try. I also found out that if I try to unlock it with the key, fob attached the alarm goes off. That seems stupid. What the heck is the key hole for then? The alarm goes off once I lock the door even with it open or hit the unlock button.

Newer Cadillac's are like this but I'm not sure about others. I bought a used MKZ and it won't let it lock with the key in the ignition but inside the car, yes.

We searched and searched the field this morning. We couldn't find the key fob.

We called a locksmith and he came out immediately and got the SUV open. Found the spare key fob inside my purse that was locked in the car.

Continued searching the field for the primary key fob. Got frustrated and left.

Returned to the field a few hours later with reinforcement to walk the field with eagle-eyed detail. My wonderful BIL found the lost key fob.

All is well in the world, and it only cost us $85 for the locksmith and a lot of cuss words.
