Downloading music (legally)

I would like to know what happens to the space when you download a song and then decide you no longer want it because it has curse words or just the wrong version and you then delete the file.

I have the files in my recycle bin but I'm wondering if I just delete them will my hard drive disk space be recovered. I don't believe you have to uninstall a music file (just like you don't for documents) but how do you ensure that the space is recalculated once you delete a file?

TIA :flowers:

It's still there. That's why you can un-delete a file. I think it's just the file extenstion (.wav, .doc etc) that gets changed so the computer doesn't reconize it as a legitimate file and will over write that space at some point in the future.
If your hard dive is so full you need to worry about the space one song is taking up, it's time to add or replace your hard drive.

Thanks Apsy Wapsy

No, my hard drive space is ok for now. I started with 34GB when I bought the pc and I was down to about 26GB before I started downloading music. I am now down to 22GB and I have only downloaded about 200 files. I can delete a lot of old email attachments (forwards) print and delete some photos that are no biggies, as well as uninstall games that I no longer play. All to recapture space.

I just want to make sure that when I delete those music files that I don't do it incorrectly and trap what could be free space. Depending on how far I go with downloading music (it's kind of addictive) I will definitely upgrade my GB's. Thanks, again!

And the space recaptured?

Yes, albeit in chunks scattered about your hard drive. You can improve hard disk performance by periodically running Disk Defragmenter.

Thanks!

I have seen the function when I do disk clean-ups. I will give it a try.

If you have never de-fragged, then you need to follow these directions carefully:
1:Start the de frag process
2:Curl up with a good book or watch a movie.

Sounds worse than scanning for viruses, but I think I am due to watch a movie. Good heads up! :yay:
