Downton Abbey

Has anyone watched this? I decided to check it out after seeing it on the Golden Globes nominations list. It takes place in England (the first episode is set in April 1912, although time sometimes passes rapidly) in a fictional estate called Downton Abbey and is sort of about the trials and tribulations of the family and servants that live there. I really like it, but I am partial to that sort of thing and it's probably not for everyone. Maggie Smith stars as the sometimes-crotchety matriarch of the family and she's hilarious, as always. The first seven episodes are available on Netflix Instant Streaming, and the second season begins tonight on PBS at 9 (I think it's listed as Masterpiece Classic).

I'm glad you like it! Dustin has been watching with me and he likes it too, which I thought was kind of surprising. We're just watching them as they come on PBS so we haven't gotten past the first episode of the 2nd season yet. It's rare for me to feel so strongly about characters in a TV show, but I find myself hating Thomas and loving Sybil.

I'm not going to throw any spoilers at you.

Thomas is a bad egg and Sybil has always been an angel.

The character development with the rest...no spoilers.

Enjoy :buddies:

My wife and I found this show a few weeks back and love it. We are currently going through series 2 on Pbs.org.

I really can't stand Thomas. The first series seems to have been better though, this one seems to have slowed down plot-wise.

I love Dame Maggie Smith as the dowager countess. Her wit and one-liners are priceless.
