Mr. Coleman -owner- works with the local traffic safety program and seems pretty interested in the issues for young drivers and roadway design. CSM people are pretty involved in programs as well.

But, don't have kids in either....pass that stage.

Just be sure to get your teen driver their 60 hours+ of practice behind the wheel with you, the parents. Remember, DE is teaching general skills and knowlege, but good practice builds safe skills and that is the parents role.

Much appreciated...now I know how much $ to expect!! Its been 8 years since my daughter went through drivers ed and I couldn't remember how much it cost even then. Anyone remember the good old days when you could take drivers ed in high school? Even offered it in summer school for people who didn't make the age during the regular school year!

Both of my kids (teenage son and college grad daughter took Drivers Ed from Moore's driving academy is Mechanicsville a few months ago. They were fine, the kids didn't have any real complaints other than being bored to death. I believe we paid $275.00 for each with discount for 2 enrollments. I have heard nothing but good remarks for CSM, however, due to daughter's tight schedule we couldn't get in. My impressions of Driver's Ed of SOMD mainly consist of their illegally parking in handicapped spots at the high school waiting to pick up kids for their after school driving sessions. How is that teaching the kids the rights and wrongs of driving (which includes parking?!) Sorry I have a soft spot for the folks who do need to park in handicapped spots and they are filled with the illegally parked people.

My suggestion is that if you have the time to wait for availability, sign your son up for CSM. Good luck and definitely make certain they get all their driving time in, it is scary out there.

I do remember driver's ed in high school, oh the days!!!!

I highly reccommmend the program at CSM. Very professionally run. They had behind the wheel training scheduled before the first class (parent orientation) was over. They even coordinated picking up students at LHS and SMR for the early slots. I think everyone in the class was satified.

Also had expiernce with some of the private companies (as well as comments from friends and co-workers). Sometimes the opposite was true. Classes were not always held as scheduled, behind the wheel training was hard, if not impossible to schedule and even something as getting the certificate of completion was made difficult.

CSM class was no BS, I believe you get your money's worth.

Did the children who completed the course at CSM receive a Certificate of Completion? When we asked Moore's Driving Academy about them, they said they don't hand those out. What is with that? Nothing to show for their work.

Yes. CSM ran a no BS operatoin, they were prepared from the get go. Materials were ready fo rthe students (on the desks when we walked in). Class start on time, ended on time. They stuck to their schedule. From personal experience and that of friends and co-workers, there always seemed to be problems with the other schools in terms of scheduling behind th wheel time and getting the cerfificates of completion to classes being cut short because one of the HS's was having home coming or some other event.

CSM was recommeneded to us for child #2 and the parent making the referral said they wished they had used CSM for their first child as well. They had no major complaints with the driving school they used but just thought that CSM was more rigorous - I thought it was just professional in how it was run.
