Driving Directions From National Airport to Solomons?

Hi,

I am flying into Reagan National tomorrow, and will be driving from there to the Holiday Inn Select in Solomons. I have directions provided by my prospective employer, but after I get on Rt. 4, it basically just says to drive South for an hour until I get to the Thomas Johnson Bridge, hidden behind Woodburn's Grocery Store. The directions are as follows, and I'd like to know if anyone can provide a better, quicker route (without being too complicated):

Directions From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport: to Holiday Inn Select in Solomons, Maryland

• Take 395 North across 14th Street Bridge.
• Pass the Maine Avenue Exit (stay in center lane).
• Follow 395 until it becomes the Southwest Freeway
• Stay on the Freeway, (do not follow 395 off freeway).
• Exit onto Pennsylvania Avenue (Sousa Bridge).
• Stay on Pennsylvania Avenue, which becomes Route 4 after it crosses under the Washington Beltway (495).
• Continue on Route 4 South for approximately 1 hour.
The hotel is located on the left side before the Thomas Johnson Bridge hidden behind Woodburn’s Grocery store

My inclination is to go from National Airport through DC to I-295, to I-95. From there, take Rt. 4 and pick up the directions as described above. What do you think?

I would take the South Capitol St. exit off the freeway and out Suitland Parkway to Rt. 4.

If ur gonna do the beltway, take 295 to the beltway, not route 1. Too many lights.

Alot depends on what time you will coming through DC. I think I'd take 395 across 14th Street Bridge till it becomes Southwest Freeway I would get off the freeway at South Capital Street before Pennsylvania Ave exit you would need to be over toward the right lanes exit comes up kind of fast, get off at South Capital St. go over the South Capital Street Bridge (Frederick Douglas Bridge) then get on Suitland Parkway follow that till the end by Andrews and you will pick up Route 4 head east or maybe its south and follow to Solomons about 50 minutes. Going to 295 to 95 not good idea all kinds of construction where 295 95 and Woodrow Wilson Bridge meet with the building of the new bridge. Going South Capital/Suitland Parkway cuts out many many traffic lights along Pennsylvania Ave in DC and Route 4 in Maryland once you get on Route 4 by Andrews you only have 1 light for about the next 15 miles or more. You only have 4 lights once you cross over the South Capital Street bridge compared to about 20 or more on Pennsylvania Ave and Route 4 up to where it meets Suitland Pkwy.

This is a split(left lane to Pa Ave., right to 295) if you stay to your right, it will take you to 295 south, less than 1/2 mile and you can exit on Suitland Parkway and take that to route 4, lots quicker than Penn.Ave out
• Exit onto Pennsylvania Avenue (Sousa Bridge).

I TOTALLY agree with Vrai, Railroad and Vince IF you're not coming towards Solomons after 3:00p.m. Otherwise, there are safety guards on every corner stopping traffic intermittently at about 3:30-4:00 until you hit the beltway.

well...about the route 4 directions. once on rt 4 it is straight to solomons island. no other way to get there. when you see woodburns grocery on your left. you will have to get on a service road. the entrance to holiday inn is between woodburns and the gas station. you will see a sign.
