Droid X HOTPSPOT??

Is there an APP for that?

I can do the hotspot with the Droid I have but I actually HotSpot the laptop using the Droid. PDANet is the App for the Droid to get online with the computer, then Connectify with a Win7 Machine to share the 3G connection.

If I have to pay extra for the tethering, and the HotSpot really won't be worth it, but if there is an app like PDANet that will let me use my data plan and not have to pay for tethering seperate, I'm all over it.

(and for Yle.. not having to root the phone preferred!!)

If you ROOT your phone then you can install WiFi Tether and use your phone as a hotspot for free. It would just use the data that you are already paying for. Go to xda-developers and choose your specific phone and do a little research on how to Root.

Im rooted and run wifi tether and its wonderful!
I also installed the 1gig kernel! Its almost twice the speed of a stock Droid!

have you looked at the miui rom for the original droid ? holy smokes, it truly takes your droid to a whole new level !

Having never done any modding on any phone, I think it took about 2 hours and some reading to root and get the tether working.
Im running CyanogenMod and its wonderful.

So if I have DSL at home and a wireless router I could dump DSL, ROOT my phone and make it a wireless router and use my phone to access the internet at home on my laptop?

Yes, I know people who have done just that. I haven't tried it myself so I don't know what kind of speed you would get using your phone for that.

AND if you root your phone it's free (other than the data plan you have to buy with the phone anyways), and I'm guessing as fast as DSL.. no as fast as cable.
