Daytona's only one race. Consistency for the whole season is what counts. Never wish ill for any driver.. Everyone can think Jeff Gordon is gay.. He still knows how to drive..

he's teaching Jimmie a thing or two; that coupled with my donations to Lowes for home improvements should help carve out a #1 points finish this new season.

Speaking of ... anyone know/hear of any changes to the points system? I've heard bits and pieces of things, but nothing firm.

i haven't heard anything for certain, lots of rumors...I like the points for the most part but think maybe the winning driver should get more.

NASCAR

1. NASCAR proposes playoff points system

The No. 1 surprise of 2003 has to be the proposed "playoff system." Want to see garage-wide shock? Take a respected and proven method of determining champions -- in place for 30 years no less -- and scrap it in favor of a wild idea that ultimately results in a 10-race shootout for all the marbles.

Competitors and fans alike are flabbergasted that NASCAR is serious about this.

Make no mistake, they are very serious about it. From Brian France on down, the entire sanctioning body has bought into this idea, and right now it appears they will institute it at some point before the outset of the 2004 campaign.

Remember, nearly half of NASCAR's 55 seasons would have produced different champions under the proposed method.

Surprised? Sure you are...

I have to agree ... while I'm not a big fan of Ryan Newman's, he won the most races last year and should have had more than what he ended up with. I think that should pay out more than "consistency" ... Heck, half the drivers in the circuit consistently finish in the bottom half of the pack ...

I agree the winner should get more, but I disagree with that 10 race shootout for the final 10 races with the top 10 races! I dont think there is going to be any changes this year though

I heard something about the top 10? drivers after a certain race would be the only ones eligible for the championship. Is this the same plan? I think that sux.. If that was the case T. Labonte and Kurt Busch wouldn't have traded the 10th spot at the end of the year.

Yes its the same plan... and to make matters worse for the final 10 races the are taking away all the points the drivers have earned and the 10 drivers will start with 0 points again...not fair to the teams! I agree...this whole idea suxs. Richmond race in the fall would be the final race that points counted!
