Well its official as of the middle of june the 15th I believe the early bird will have new owners...i know that the same people who bought 3rd base are related to the guy who bought the bird...i think it stinks that this store is being bought out by a person who is obviously not from around here..I sure am gonna miss all the food...The people in the kitchen were really fast at getting your food out and the people that worked the front counter were always really friendly too..I sure hope they keep everyone and don't give them the boot..It would be ashame to see that business go down the tubes..Hopefully nothing changes....I guess at the end of the day everyone has a price and nothing lasts forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The end of an era. :ohwell:

It's weird when a landmark business goes away.

It's more than weird, it's heartbreaking.
When you grow up spending your pennies and ice cream money in a place, ordering pizza and riding your dirt bike down there to fetch it, and buying your first pack of smokes there before the legal age, you feel like a piece of your childhood is being burned away. Believe me that place will retain nothing of memories those of us have once the transition is done. It maynot be in the same building it started, but it was still Early Bird. It won't be for long.:ohwell:

No, Oh Negative One. Scratch is trying to say that Early Bird is part of St. Mary's culture - just like BettyRussell's, Buzzy's, The Roost, etc. Anyone who isn't from the county won't understand the sadness people feel when these landmarks go away. And, not understanding this, they will feel free to build a WaWa, which just makes it worse.

Imagine your grandmother's house, the house you spent your childhood in, being demolished so some developer can build condos.

Yeah but this isn't the original location, it had moved several years ago from where it was beside Thompson's Furniture. So would it really be like one's childhood home going away?

I remember the original Early Bird. Shame that "progress" is wiping out
all the good stuff. R.I.P. Early bird. Yeah Right! Really need another
WAWA/Sheetz with all that "plastic" food and generic stuff. Early Bird
was more personal.

My parents used to take me into Betty Russels as a kid...is she still around? Who runs it now...
Betty is gone, so is Robert. I think Triggy runs it. Drank Plenty of Wild Turkey there over the years but had not been in for a long time. I went back in a year or so ago and they drug a dusty pint out of the back for me...

Is anything going to change with the Early Bird, other than the owners? I mean that Third Base is still the little store it used to be and if the same people are buying the Early Bird what makes some of you think it will be a drastic change like what comes with a WaWa or Sheetz?

Who the hell is Betty Russell? Or Buzzy? Poon was the original owner of the Early Bird when it was across from the Dew Drop Inn, I have lived in the county all my life, some 30 years now, I've never heard of Buzzy or Betty Russell.

The Early Bird will go to shiat anywho because of the cheesebruger paradise that's coming to wildewood, the new owner gave the guy 100K more than what he was asking for it, or so I heard. IGA in Leonardtown is closing too.

Does anyone remember when Joe Heard used to own the Exxon Station which is now, or used to be called Hollywood Auto Tech? It's beside the Moose Lodge on Mervill Dean Road at the intersection of ClarksLanding, and beside Exxon used to be Adams Body Shop.

My father always says "they won't be happy until there isn't a tree left in the county", then he cuts and throws beer cans in the Patuxent River, this I never understand. I can understand people being sentimential, but change is inevitable, and welcoming in my book, we need to get some of the good ole' boy mentality out of this county. In addition, why should we dislike someone for starting a business that isn't from the county or even the same nationality? We have the same equal opportunities as they do, we just chose not to do so IMO.

I say Good Day. :howdy:

On another note, X3 kicks A$$

You don't get out much do you? :lmao: Betty Russell's is at the end of Rt. 244 on the Valley Lee side and Buzzy's is a little grocery down in Ridge where you can sit at the meat counter and down your 10 Ozs.

That's what I was thinking. I've found Third Base to be just as friendly to go into! The new owner bent over backwards one day trying to get my card to work right:lol:

The only memory of Early Bird I have, other then passing it on the way up Route 5, is my Step Monster and her Mother taking me in there for thier before noon beer when I was little. Therefore I always thought that Early Bird meant whoever made it to the keg first... :lmao: :ohwell:
