My fiance and I are looking for places for our honeymoon at the end of June. We are looking for somewhere we can drive to in less than 10 hours. Been to Ocean city, love it but not for our honeymoon. We also love Williamsburg Va. but again we want something a little different for our honeymoon. Would prefer a beach, ocean or even a lake. We have been looking at NC but it is hard to find what we are looking for. We just want a 1 bedroom place, pref with a jacuzi or at least a 2 person tub. Any suggestions? Websites? Guess I oughta add we are on a budget too. lol who isnt now

Go to Tennessee! It's gorgeous! We went to Pigeon Forge and had a blast. There's SO much to do there.

If you want secluded and pretty. Try the Adirondacks. Lake Placid is 10 hour drive. Southern ADKs is closer. Many cabins on lakes for rent throughout the area. Blue Mountain Lake area is gorgeous. Also nice is the Finger Lakes Region of NY. I personnaly think Niagara Falls is too commercial and old hat. Just Google Adirondacks rentals.

If you want to drive a little further... why not something like St. Augustine FL? Lots of history there...

There is also Cape Cod, MA... Try a B&B...

Upstate New York sucks in the summer. Humid as hell and very buggy. Lotta swamp land in that area.

Other than that, I'd agree.
My trip to Niagara Falls was in June and it was perfect weather. We stayed on the the Canadian side in an upper level room that had a balcony overlooking the falls. What with the spectacular scenery, the river gorge walk, the Mist of the Falls boating event, the gorge speedboat outting, the butterfly conservatory and arboretum and other area attractions, it was a splendid and romantic trip.

Well goody for you. I've spent any number of gorgeous days in DC in July and August over the years. I just ain't gonna recommend it without saying what the weather is LIKELY to be!

I guess if you stay around the cities like you did, it may not be as bad and, certainly, there are great days anywhere. In any event, the region is swamp and it is usually muggy as hell and lots of skeeters.

My S/O wants to go to Maine for our main 2010 vacation... just because.

That's a long way to drive just to see what "north" looks like...:eyebrow:

We have family up there and everyone tells me it's gorgeous. However, I simply can not find it in my to commit the time and resources when there are oh, so many other things I'd rather go and see and do.

Have him talk to Pete for an hour or so. I'm sure he'll change his mind.

I've been to Maine several times. Beautiful but rugged seashore, lots of small towns, larger towns with outlet malls, fantastic dining. You can even go moose watching. :lmao:

Cape Cod is gorgeous but I haven't been there since I was a young girl. I'd love to go back someday.

I stayed at a beautiful B&B in a little town called Marblehead. Wonderful town with lots of history and an easy drive to Boston.

Marblehead, MA Travel Guide, New England Yachting Capital, 17 Miles North of Boston

Yea, I stayed at a really nice B&B... I'm still racking my brain to figure out where it was exactly and what it was called. It had a HUGE bed, nice private balcony, jacuzzi in the bathroom and all the cool guy fixtures.

They served a bottle of wine (complementary)... and cheese.

Needless to say, I didn't need the TV (yep, I'm a dude).

I also went on a whale watching trip from there.

Well goody for you.
I agree that timing is everything and weather is completely unpredicable no matter the season. I just spent last Saturday thru Tuesday at Myrtle Beach. Purely by chance we were home Tuesday night before just before the deluge began. *whew*

I agree with kwillia & Cattitude. Niagara Falls is a great place to visit, very romantic. There's so much to do/see as long as you stay on the Canadian side. The NY side looks like crap (houses look like shacks) but the Canadian side is full of beautiful gardens & has a good nightlife if you like to go out for a few drinks. You can stay in commercialized hotels or in quaint bed & breakfasts.

I miss Niagara Falls, we used to live 30 minutes from there & we'd go over to Canada all the time. Believe it or not, it's also gorgeous in the winter when everything is frozen over. There's about 4 inches of ice on all the trees and lamp posts. Can't say I miss the winters in the great North .
