...one more justification for our second amendment to the Constitution.

In Finland there are 56 privately owned weapons per 100 civilians. Only the United States (90) and Yemen (61) have more heavily armed civilian population according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Most personally owned firearms in Finland are long firearms (rifles and shotguns) licensed for hunting. Firearm statistics include signalling pistols, which are very common as boating and yachting are popular sports in the country.

...if the good Fins had a gun they could have stopped the broken Fin.

ignoring that fact that the fins are the thrid most heavily armed citizenry in the world......

I'm all for gun ownership, but its ridiulous to spout this BS everytime a tragey occurs, but then ignore the FACT that a person with a gun commited the crime.

I would think that the anti's would have a much better argument for restricting ownership when looking at these cases.

...but the first part is there will always be crazy people trying to harm others be it with a gun, a baseball bat, box cutters or bad music. So, that part is a given.

The second part is the right to keep and bear arms which will at least give you a chance to deal with the first part.

right, and we all understand that there are legitimate limits on our rights. so every case cannot be resolved with the stupid "if someone with a gun had been there" proclimation.

In FInland one must register each and every gun and one must be a member of a shooting club in order to qualify for a gun permit. Despite strict registering, restrictions on storage, strict transporting rules and the prohibition on carrying guns in public, this travesty still happened.
I seriously doubt this 18 year old got the gun legally and registered it.

Thats just cuz our citizens that own guns own multiple lol.

thats why our numbers are so high
Gun ownership in America is about 33% and about 45% of all Americans live in a house with a gun in it.
In Finland they had at least 24% of all households with a gun in it back in 1994 (I could find no recent estimates).
Despite the proliferation of guns in Finland, they have a low murder rate and guns are used rarely in those murders (14%).
In 2004 more people were murdered by someone using a handgun in the "handgun free" UK than were murdered by someone using any type of firearm in Finland. They also have a lower overall murder rate than in the UK.

wow, that sounds like a really good argument to have strick controls, but to allow the population to own guns :hmmmm:

BTW, i was talking about your assertion that this young man had obtained his firearm illegally.

The last mass murder in Finland which was just a few years ago was not committed with a gun. Seven people died.
Bombs are illegal in Finland, yet many people still died.
Why didn't we hear as much about the bomb attack in a crowded mall in Finland here in the US? Because it didn't involve an "evil" gun.

That post wasn't in respionse to yours. Your post did not deserve a response because you did not read properly what I wrote.

Despite the proliferation of guns in Finland, there is minimal gun crime. It is not the guns which cause crime, it is the criminals.
In the Uk despite strict controls on firearms and a total ban on handguns, they have more murder than Finland and they have more violent crimes than the US despite having a fifth of the population. Removing handguns from society just created defenseless victims and did nothing to deter criminals and murderers.
How you got the idea that is a good idea for strict gun control is a mystery.
