Elective Ultrasounds

So that article is basically saying it's a possibility, but nobody knows for sure. Am I misunderstanding it?
That's how I'm reading it... it's the same philosophy as avoiding things such as caffeine, hot tubs, smoking, etc. IMO, if a pregnant mother-to-be is taking measures to reduce risks for other things, she should take ultrasounds seriously too.

TY. So there is still no 'proof'. :yay:

Yup :yay:

The fact that there is physical evidence remaining that can pinpoint when an ultrasound was done is a huge red-flag for me... I had no idea...:faint:

Devil's advocate...

There's no 'proof' that letting your baby sleep on his belly causes SIDs....you gonna let him sleep on his belly?

I find it interesting that each time I have been offered an ultrasound (in my previous pregnancies) I have never had to sign any sort of informed consent form about possible side effects etc. Has anybody else had the same experience?

Excuse me?

I was simply asking for something showing that this was factual. I never said it wasn't true, I just wanted to see the study that shows it was true. Like I said, all but one of my ultrasounds were done by doctor's orders for reasons I'm not sharing here.

SIL had two children through the use of high level fertility treatments. At least one of them was the result of a clinical study on new methods of fertility medicine at Johns Hopkins. As a result of the clinical study, she had ultrasounds every couple of weeks for the entire pregnancy. Some of the ultrasounds during both pregnancies showed odd growths on the children's skulls, which doctors believed were brain cysts. She spent weeks in a panic because they were telling her that her children may be brain damaged.

Both children were born perfectly normal, with no sign of cysts or anything else. They are now 6 & 7 years old and are perfectly normal spoiled brats.

No, but with my last child (25 years ago...) my doctor told me of the "new" reports regarding the effects of ultrasounds on the fetus. He said it was not definitive yet his advice was to proceed with caution. The only reason I had them was because I had problems with my pregnancy and he wanted to let me know of the risks as he understood them at the time.

Exactly.

Back to the info posted by Hawkeye... when preggo with my daughter. I received a weekly sono for the last 4-5 weeks of my pregnancy because they were concerned about the size of her bladder... (they weren't sure if she had a blockage or not. Turned out there was no problem.) She had to do speech therapy in elementary school for a couple years because she wasn't pronouncing correctly at all... hmmmm... :eyebrow:

You're being too sensitive.

I was simply saying that there is a ton of medical suspicions that cannot be proven for anything.

I found out I was pregnant @ 7 weeks with our twins and from my first visit up until my very last, I had an ultrasound...Sometimes 2-3 times per week when the preterm labor started @ 26 weeks.

They are a little over 2 now and are perfectly normal kids, normal speech, development etc....

They were born @ 38 weeks by a scheduled c-section and both were over 7 pounds.

My 1st son, I didn't have nearly as many sono's, maybe 10 total the whole 42 weeks I was pregnant...

My mom was still doing clinical work when I was pregnant with #1 and was the center manager with #2. I had 387465965763 ultrasounds with both. :lmao:
