Been making this point for a while about depreciation ruining the savings over gas.

Wait until the folk start getting hammered with a mileage tax No more freeloading, avoiding the fuel tax.

He did add in for that. But heres the kicker.

Currently, depreciation/any cost of the vehicle, the Tesla is already winning at 15c/mile vs. the Corolla's 16c/mile due to the cheaper maintenance and fuel despite the higher insurance and tabs. But taking into account depreciation changes, that comparison to $0.34 vs. $0.20 in favor of the Corolla, for now. Which is a price I'm comfortable paying for enhanced safety, comfort, etc.

Comparing depreciation on an older vehicle that cost far less to begin with sort of skews the data. And of course, as he mentions you are paying extra not just for an EV, but one that's far faster, safer and more comfortable.

Modern lack of research problems.

And I would hope like hell that Tesla wont transfer without some rigor. Imagine if all I had to was fake a sales receipt. All of this stems from a dickhead previous owner, maybe it was repossessed and auctioned. Looks like he purchased from a "small local dealer". Which is where the problem came in. That small dealer never took possession of the car legally, which led to delays in paperwork.

And this sort of thing can happen with no tech. Remember that sketchy small dealership that was running a pyramid scheme years back on GMR?
Pretty sure nobody can remotely pilot my 2006 truck.

And nobody remotely piloted this vehicle vehicle either. The buyer bought from a crappy dealer who bought a car they didn't understand mostly likely from auction. Sometimes saving a buck costs you.
Sorry, control. Just the possibility of this sort of thing is why I don't want that sort of tech in a car no matter who makes it.

See, I work in probable's, not possibles. Like every risk in life, you assign a probability and a severity. This guy was never in danger. He was inconvenienced. And the odds of this happening to you are incredibly slim. And with the most basic of precautions, you can ensure it drops to zero.

Like worrying about your Wi-Fi router being compromised because someone got hacked by leaving it on the default password. I dont worry about that because I don't do that. Or someone getting your phone info from a rental car because you didn't remove it when you dropped the car off.

Well I also have zero desire to use any of that stuff. The panic button they put on key fobs annoy me enough, neighbor keeps setting theirs off and not realizing it.

Never used the panic button myself. Like the first unlock press only unlocks the drivers door, its silly based on a one in a million chance that some scumbag is waiting in the parking lot to hop in your backseat when you hot the lock button. I disable that if I can. Love me some remote start. Love being able to not only unlock the convertibles doors, but also have the windows come down and the top stow as I approach. Also love being able to tell the car to warm up a bit as I'm waiting for my luggage to hit the carousel. If I left the key in the house, I can open the car and trunk from my phone. All this on the wifes 2020 BMW.

I would love to be able to leave a dog in the car and know that the car will keep a safe temp for them and that I can monitor the dogs on the in cabin camera. I would love for my car to record around itself and let me know if dirtbags are screwing with it. I would love for my car to gain new features every few months. Android Auto hit the 2020 BMWs, but her car was built two months too late.

In the past Ive bought a car with all that stuff, after several years found that I used it once or twice and that's it.

Neighbors kid steps on his fob's panic button. I think it's real purpose has been people that can't find their car in a parking lot.

I was working on the truck, keys in my pocket. All of a sudden the doors locked and the engine started.

I don't keep my keys in my pocket anymore when bending and twisting in tight blue jeans.

Wife's Jeep turns 10 this year and we use what it has all the time. The "advanced" stuff they offered was crazy costly and worked pretty poorly. So it's just the fob stuff, remote start, hatch open and close.

The five year old BMW with it's app is much better. Tire pressure, temp at each tire, fuel state. Set the cabin to cool off as much as it can using the blower motor. Lock, unlock, start. Don't use the lock often, but a couple of times I had folks drop stuff off in it while I was too busy to leave the office. Or if I need to grab something and forgot the key.
