'Elliot in the Morning' hit with indecency fine
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators stepped up their campaign against indecency, proposing a $247,500 fine Friday against the nation's largest radio chain for a Washington-based show.
The Federal Communications Commission cited Clear Channel Communications' "Elliot in the Morning" show for nine alleged violations "that involved graphic and explicit sexual material, and were designed to pander to, titillate and shock listeners."

The FCC proposed the maximum fine of $27,500 per incident.

"Elliot in the Morning" is heard on WWDC in Washington; WRXL in Richmond, Va.; and WOSC in Bethany Beach, Del.

The fine comes amid heightened public and political pressure on broadcasters to clean up their programming. On Thursday, the House overwhelmingly passed legislation that would boost the maximum indecency fine to $500,000 per incident.

Last month, the FCC proposed a record $755,000 fine against Clear Channel for airing raunchy content on the "Bubba the Love Sponge" show in Florida. The disc jockey of that show was fired by Clear Channel, which did not contest the fine.

Sorry about that chief.
I agree with JH, shock jocks who thrive on teen potty humor bore me, and have for years. I can't understand some people's infatuation with them, just look at Stern, not a funny bone in his body, no talent at all, yet he makes $$$ by saying dirty words on the radio.

If you're gonna go blue do it right like the pros, Redd Foxx, Shecky Greene, Richard Pryor, et. al.

Elliott is a big, goofy kid who's fascinated by gross topics, like castration and suicide jumping. He doesn't use a lot of vulgar language himself, but he slyly encourages his callers to use it. If someone drops the S bomb or the F bomb, he doesn't dump the word, he just lets it go and says something like "Hey, watch it." It's a way of avoiding responsibility.

Still, I like him better than Stern and the Junkies. Stern is more intelligent and can talk sensibly on many topics, but he's a blowhard covering up for his insecurities. The Junkies come across as too angry and aggressive for my taste, like they're always on the verge of throwing punches at one another.

Elliot used to be available online, but isn't anymore. I wish the Junkies were. We get the worlds crapiest radio reception here, so if it ain't on the internet, it ain't on in my office.

Me too, I'm a pro flipper between KML, the junks, Elliott and Howard.

I think Elliott is a gonner but, remember, he actually predicted it last week.

Elliott has been at this a long time:

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/features/hoffman/2450622

In the late '80s, Segal and I were part of the crew on John Lander's Q-Morning Zoo show on KKBQ in Houston...

One morning in November '87, Lander, with Smelliot in cahoots, called Segal's mother and said, "This is Dr. James Massey, dean of students at Houston Baptist University. We caught your son flying an 8-foot condom from the campus flagpole. As punishment, we're revoking his scholarship. Either you pay back the $6,500, or we're going to expel him."

Naturally, Segal's mother was upset. But not nearly as upset as the real dean of students and Houston Baptist University... (which) suspended him indefinitely -- for impugning the character of the university.

Maybe it was because the radio bit contained the words "condom" and "Houston Baptist University," oh, about 100 times.

Hey, wait a minute... why did a Jewish guy like Elliott attend a Baptist university?

No, Tonio - HE is not fascinated by stupid topics. His LISTENERS are. Elliott isn't the moron - he's the one making money off the morons.

That's a good point. I was thinking that it would be hard to fake the obvious enthusiasm that Elliott shows for those topics.

Of course, I believe we all have a secret fascination for the gross and bizarre, but not all of us choose to indulge it. Long ago I made a pledge not to rubberneck when driving by car accidents. Partly because it's rude and insensitive, and partly because I don't want slow down traffic just to indulge my curiousity. In fact, I try to go as fast as the traffic will allow, often leaving a huge gap between myself and the car behind me.

I hope Elliot's stock portfolio has been doing well. I never cared for their lack of taste or their rambling about stuff that doesn't matter.

if you will
The sooner they fire Don&Mike, Ron&Fez, Elliot, Howard, and the rest of those sickos and replace them will conservative political talk shows and faith-based programming, the better we'll all be. And if a little government pressure on corporations is required to do that, so be it.
