Ugh - I literally feel your pain! My boy did the same thing the first week of July. Flakey farrier took off and left me and all clients in the dust....what was I to do? Said farrier further butchered his sore feet by slapping on shoes that were to small before he skipped town- when my boy should have been left to heal (no hoof to put a shoe to). So 3 absesses and severe bruising, a visit from Dr. Mende and a new very incredible farrier later....we are back and sound. But my equine soap opera went on for about 7 weeks! NOT FUN! But I'm happy he is sound now and we're hoping to be out and about for the fall shows! His first set of shoes only lasted 4 weeks - he still doesn't have a lot of hoof, but it is growing. Dr. Mende likes the way his feet are being treated and we should be in the clear....
Moral of my story is - severe hoof injuries take time to heal. I hope your boy is on his way to recovery and you have a excellent farrier to help you. Yes it is true - "no hoof, no horse"! Hope all is well!!
