Solar Power

Been doing a lot of research on "off grid". I'm not looking to go off grid, but I do want to do some camping in remote areas, but still want the luxury of cold drinks and a charged cell phone/laptop. The price of components has come way down, a decent 100 watt solar panel can be had for around...

I'm on a DIY solar forum, and everyone is gaga over LiFePO4. But the number of problems, BMS issues, swelling, bad purchases, massive fires, insane cost, etc.... has kept me away from them. Lead Acid AGM works just fine for me. Dependable, recyclable, can walk away from it for weeks at a time and know it's not going to burn everything down.

I'm designing another small portable system with more capability. Still researching the inverter.

I have 230 Ah and supplement the engine alternator with a small 30w panel.

There are a couple of systems out there now that can combine all of those inputs into one charge controller; engine alternator, solar, genny, and charge a house battery isolated from the starter battery. Perfect for house trailers and boats.

I also have that one for my truck. I haven't used it on the truck but it did a good job starting a Subaru in Targets parking lot one day.

That's a great price too, paid $75 for mine.

I put one of those Li-Ion jump starters in my wife's car...it takes up less space than jumper cables. I think I paid about the same as Elbow. It said to check it every few months, but it has always said 100%.
