Engine Tune For 0'12 Cruze 1.8

I might be going out on a limb here but I think that you are in the same boat that I am with my 2.Slow Jetta - You can find better ways to PI$$ away money than to try to "improve" these cars. Case in point for $5000.00 I can add about 12-15 HP to my Jetta, or I can save that and put that money elsewhere as you will NEVER feel the 12-15 HP difference.

Damn, $3500 got me about 140hp for my Neon:) but only on race gas, was only about100hp on pump gas:) But that motor was built ground up for high boost levels.

your problem, Dee, is that makers of aftermarket performance parts have to watch the target market very closely, and use a very conservative "sayIwannababuys/actuallyspendsrealmoney" ratio to judge market interest in making parts. So, if the car comes with three engines, and you got the "bottom feeder" motor, chances of someone making good stuff for it is pretty slim. And most smaller normally aspirated engines, not a lot of meat left on the bone, tuning-wise, for a tuner to pick off.

Yeah, I can find toys for my Jetta for a bit cheaper now but to make computer mods and then improve the handling to take better advantage of the changes the little beater would have cost way too much. I can get a 100HP Turbo kit for @ $1000 now but I have no idea of who the maker of the parts are. My thoughts on my Jetta and DKP's cars, drive them for what they are - practical beaters and put your money into a more deserving project ride.

I put a cool air intake and a cat back exhaust on my Yugo GV back in the day.

Wish Mopar would do that sort of thing again, was a Mopar kit, mistu made the turbo custom for them, Ti-AL wheel, low mass, quick spool, new computer, injectors, fuel pump/regualtor. Install cost me three days at the Hobby shop and a little blood:)

Drove a Yugo once, about 10 miles, cracked me up, was like driving bumper car on the street.

5k is a whole lot of money for 80hp.

Sure is, but it's also relative. You figure about 10HP, for every psi of boost...plus we're talking gas engines here, not boost hungry diesels

5k is bit on the high side anyway. I'm piecing together a "turbo kit" for ym beater car for less than $300.

5psi will give me about 50hp, which should at least help me merge into traffic.

Yes, and the palette that you are working with needs to be considered before throwing good money away at poor choices.

DKP, Have you ever thought about just adding tint, some wheels, and maybe a little custom paint or body work? Or are you desiring a Sleeper by hopping up your non LTZ Cruze?

It should definately be considered. Unless you have an extra 5k laying around to dump into whatever you like.

Yes, that is a very cool kit. But it adds more reasoning to my argument to take a bone stock Neon and make it run would cost a heck of a lot more cash than if you bought a SRT4 and modded the SRT4. The Jetta 1.8T vs the 2.0 is the same argument as well as DKP's issue - 1 option level up would have allowed him more modding choices.

Another point of contention for me anyway, I can mod the heck out of my Jetta and still not be to the power output that the Stage 3'd SRT4 would. So from my perspective start with a better or easily modded car as opposed to having a pig with lipstick on.

Ha, if only. I have too many toys and not enough time (or money) currently!

For those that already know, I have a '12 LS 6 speed.

I've read all kinds of things about a "trifecta tune" for this car.

Anybody tried this yet?
Does anybody know of any other kinds of mods I could get for this car to put some a** into it?

Isn't this like tuning a Harley??

If you want a +100 HP bike why not spend 1/2 the money and get one built with +100 HP??

If you want a car with X amount of HP, buy one.. Why buy one with 1/2X and spend 30 - 50K to get to X?

(should of bought the Hyundai!!)

And this isn't REALLY a dig on Harley.. They aren't intended to be performance bikes.. so why buy one and try to make it one?

Because if it ain't broke, Modify it!

Besides mine is only tweaked to a Stage 1 to allow me to play with different slip on's and a bit better throttle response.

Yep, and we get the same thing with the "normal" Chargers and the SRT-8s, no way in hell can you make a regular Hemi car come close to the SRT-8s capabilities for anywhere near the price difference.

Very true, but I have a buddy spending a LOT of cash trying to make his run like a SRT-8.

Oh you can, I know of one locally, all blacked out, it would crush mine on the strip. Wouldnt keep up on a road course, its suspension and brakes, while good on paper, don't account for the fact that just placing parts on doesn't make the whole vehicle work up to the level of those parts.

If you're driving a 1.8 Turbo Jetta and think it's too slow, perhaps you need a tune-up. If you're driving a 6-cylinder Jetta in any stock configuration, my guess is that in choosing the six, you lost the real boost that the turbo provides to the 4-cylinder in acceleration. Two cars have sold me on the turbo: an 89 Chrysler LeBaron and an 03 VW Jetta. My experience is limited to used cars just the way I bought them since I can't afford to do anything more. My VW flies and I love it. The LeBaron is long gone.

I wish I had the engines that you mention, however I have the 2.Slow (2.0) 4 cylinder. It is in a mistake of a purchase that was to be flipped but was kept thanks to better gas mileage than my trucks. The 1.8 and the V6 are both more capable and have a lot more parts available. So I just keep this little oil burner stock as I view it as a waste to put money into, its no road racer and will lose its arse to everything except for a Yugo in a drag race. Besides I have a 55 210 to modify and that to me is a much more worthy vehicle.

I agree with the TDI, I will say this, it is pretty weak right off the line, but it only takes a few feet from a dead stop then the turbo kicks in and it will light up the tire. Highway acceleration is ok, but its not something that most people would brag about. On a long trip highway we can see as much as 60mpg, around town and beltway to and from work it is between 45 and 50 mpg.
Some chip it, I see no value in such antics.

I am considering a set of American Racing wheels; just not in a big hurry.
