Epic response from local restaurant

My son works there and said that even though they close at 6:30, they were still cooking at 8:30 trying to catch up on orders. He didn't get home until almost midnight. He was exhausted. He told us the next day that if the dining room had been open, it would have turned over EIGHT times by the end of business on Sunday. I can attest that Jerry's staff worked their butts off that day to make sure everyone got their orders.

BRAVO.. We LOVE Jerry's and am really glad they are in Prince Frederick.. otherwise we'd go broke eating there all the time, even if we did have to share the dining room with Steny now and then.

Their staff (Jerry Especially) are AMAZING... Not only is the food great, but the staff is an experience all it's own. I can't think of any place where they go out of their way to be social, and entertaining. Jerry sat at our table for awhile and talked about his business, his Crab Soup, and his exceptional workers, point them out one by one in the dining room, telling us their names, and a little back story on each one.. this man TRULY loves his business and his workers.

I'm glad he went out of his way to explain the wait times, though I wish he didn't have to. I'm sure when customers called they told them the expected wait.

Bravo Jerry..

They had hours of wait times and someone was so upset they called the freaking cops and Health Dept on them and claimed they were serving inside the restaurant.

This same thing happened to other local businesses.

People suck.
My kid mentioned that happening. Said it wasn't even possible to do that because they have tables blocking off the front of the restaurant.

And unfortunately, they can't just drive by and say "welp, clearly no one eating in here". No, they have to make contact so the manager, on likely the busiest day of their lives, had to take time to appease the Cops and HD because some jackass called it in.

Sounds like that guy Jerry is a stand-up guy and a good business owner.
From his message, it looks like all of his staff worked their behinds off -- and that amount of motivation takes an owner who cares deeply for his employees and business. Good on him.

You have to go there once or twice to really get it. Jerry is a people kind of person that knows how to make you feel special and appreciated as a customer.

He is an AMAZING owner and his restaurant is also amazing - the food is superb - and while I'm not a huge seafood eater, everything I've ever had there was awesome. :yay:

I'm glad they did so well on Mother's Day and I'm sure the a**hole who reported them will have his karma returned to him one day.

I think he'd know the first time he went - but I get what you mean. :yay:

I am very glad that such places are doing that kind of business. Our family makes an effort to order out at least once a week. We have friends and family who depend on such establishments for their livelihood.

However, what I am about to say might not be received well.

When I go to a restaurant that is at capacity - they don't take my food order and tell me I might get cold food in two hours after I have paid for it. The limitations of seating logically impede the flow of food from the kitchen. What they DO tell me is, an hour or more wait to be seated. This is an understood measure to make sure the restaurant is not overwhelmed beyond its ability to effectively and efficiently serve food.

SOMEHOW, a restaurant must take measures to ensure they don't just keep taking orders. It may well be that when you're just cooking and delivering, you're actually able to accommodate a larger clientele - but you will still reach capacity albeit a virtual one. There needs to be some stopgap online or by phone to inform that you are at capacity and the client must wait. Otherwise, you make everyone wait and/or pay for inadequate service. When you sit in a restaurant, you are able to communicate your needs directly and pay afterward. When I order online, I really don't have that line of communication, so if my food order is wrong, hours late, cold and poorly done or under/over cooked, I'm mostly out of luck - AND I have already paid and added a tip.

I now understand better what the restaurants are seeing - but I am still not going to give return business if the food is cold, late and incorrect, as has happened a few times. The places that have done that will still not be receiving my business, and may not in the future when the restrictions are lifted.

From what my son told me, they did stop taking orders after a certain number. It's not like they were behind and kept taking orders. They just couldn't keep up with the demand and they did advise people of the long wait times so they could decide for themselves whether or not they still wanted to order.

That's good - but we didn't order from them. Other restaurants we've been ordering from do not appear to be doing that. When I am told "an hour and a half" wait and it turns out to be three and a half hour wait - and wrong - I don't think they're managing the flow of orders well.

It seems that everywhere had the same issue on Sunday. I tried Outback, Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn. All 3 online ordering sites had message that they were experiencing delays and to try again. Finally was able to place an order at Longhorn. Said it would be ready in one hour (at 6:40). No problem. Got there at 6:40, parking lot was packed. We had to park on the side next to Potbelly. The parking lots at all the restaurants were packed. You would have thought the inside was open as packed as they were. Called as instructed to let them know I had arrived and tell them where my vehicle was parked. Someone would bring order out shortly. Some people were waiting in front of their door for their order and some people were in their vehicles. Every once in a while a worker would come out with bags looking for a certain car. After waiting a half hour or so, tried calling inside to see about how much longer. Could not get through. Finally got through and was told they were running about an hour behind the pickup times. Finally got our food a little after 8:00. If we knew in advance how long the wait time would be it would have been fine. We would have decided to still order and just go later to pick up or not order at all. But being given a pickup time and then sitting in a car for 1 1/2 hours longer waiting for the food was the issue. I was happy that businesses were doing so well but they needed to have a better strategy.
