My child just walked in the door. She said they were only allowed to go to their lockers if they needed to get house keys, but not book bags. She said they also weren't told what was going on, but she said she could smell something like rubber burning. She sat in the 6th grade hallway until dismissal. She said she was not worried because everyone was calm.

Seems like it would take longer to dig the keys out than to grab the whole bag.

My son is home now, he said the bookbags of some classes were locked in there, that is why they couldn't get them. They were also told if you grabbed more than what you were told, you would get 5 days suspension. the keys were more important than bookbags...understandable.

My child was told just to get her keys. She said it was implied they would get in trouble if they grabbed their book bags, but she didn't hear about the suspension part. Seems like the fair thing to do since the only people allowed to go to their lockers were the kids that needed their house keys.

Suspension part sounds like students making it up amongst themselves.

No, it isn't, if you are getting told by different people on this subject in here, i wouldn't think it is made up. i can understand why they would do that though, it is a safetly issue. I was told that kids had to escorted to their lockers for thos who needed their house keys.

Whoops. When I said, "the fair thing to do..." I was referring to the kids not getting their back packs, not the suspension part.
