Here's the way I see it. If you know someone that needs your help.... do it. If you can help that person and spread the Word.... even telling people how good it feels to help someone... then more people will do something nice for someone else.... pay it forward. That seemed to work for Jesus.
Should the government help? Humans came up with the big idea of kings. Government outside of the church was never what God had in mind for us. Humans kept asking God for a government so He let them have it. If people put in money through their taxes to be used for Humanitarian or Social Services Programs, then the government should be spending it there.
Should the government stop the church from helping out? Why would they?
So the government can become God.

I understood Chuckt to be responding to your question. The government ultimately doesn't want people looking to other places for assistance. The state becomes its own religion.

I don't understand your statement.... what do you mean?
The politicians are not running for Messiah. The politicians are running for themselves. Did you know I can get a government cell phone for free paid for by the same taxes that come from the person who can't give to their church to help other people? We believe money is given to take jobs overseas to help developing countries. We're being made poor because of NAFTA because we let in products that are essentially tax free in order to sell our products overseas. I can get a $5 flashlight from China with free shipping but go and try to return it and see how much shipping is when you try to return it. We are letting them make us poor because they put Americans making the same product out of work because you probably can't make that flashlight for less than $100 over here.
Wallmart and Sams Club offer politicians bribes in the form of campaign contributions and basically get tariff free imports that put the American producer out of work so we have poor people who need assistance as a result. You have Apple who is basically not paying taxes on imports, you have to give them tax breaks and incentives to put people to work over here and then you the taxpayer has to pay for police and other services. You now have to call on the government for assistance because no one can afford to give to the Church.
You have people who can't afford healthcare but they pay taxes from January 1st to April 31st or about on nothing but taxes. The rich love it because then they are the ones with the money getting the cheap products and services from Wallmart, Sam's Club, etc. Prices go up so commodities and so forth are available to them but not available to you and this is done in the name of "compassion". Isn't it nice to share what you have so that they can get rich and you can contribute services to someone who could pay for it themselves but can't because they have to pay for services for a company like Apple to get tax advantages to build a company in the United States while their products are not taxed from companies like Foxconn selling them in the United States? But try to sell in China and you will pay a tariff.

Because you don't want God, the King or Government will take instead of God supplying it to you because you've rejected God and you want government.
Government has become God because of the people's rejection. And because your public 'servants' or politicians don't run for Messiah, they want their constituents to look to them so give the tithe to them but you will pay mightily.

You must be shopping in Walmarts and Sam' Clubs that are FAR different than every one I've been in. The ones I've been in..no "rich" people anywhere in sight. Plenty of "not-so-rich" and "obviously-not-rich-at-all" people though..

Did you ever see those commercials on t.v. for cars and you just have to pay $399 a month? I asked people who can pay that and they said doctors. I saw my doctor in Sam's Club but to you they look like ordinary people because my doctor was wearing jeans. My last boss takes six vacations a year and drove a caddy. She had her birthday at a country club. Her old lincoln was leased and sold for $22,000 and owners of companies like my boss leased them every two years. Could you look at my boss and tell who is a millionaire and who wasn't?
The accountant at work was showing me a picture of his rolls royce. Did you know that the dashboard is made out of wood and they keep the tree alive where it came from so if there are any problems, they can fix it for you? And when you have to get the oil change done, did you know that no matter what has to get done, you are going to have a $2,000 bill? They look like normal people but some people have money and the reason they like being Democrat is because they can get you to pay for the poor person so they don't have to. Look it up on the web. There are more rich Democratic leaders than Republican and they are both playing a game for the rich while you get poor and while the middle class disappears.

BTW..what is your definition of "rich"...and how do you think people end up becoming "rich"?

My boss runs a $20 million dollar company and he told people that he's not rich and he use to drive a Honda. It all depends on your perspective on what rich is.

They are all wearing jeans but they could be shopping at my local Walmart and you would never know how rich they are unless you knew who they were.

Not everyone who is rich is playing the part.
How do they end up being rich? The salesman I worked with didn't have to work again. His father left him a lot of Sunoco stock and him and his wife saved and invested it while working normal jobs but they could live off the interest comfortably and never touch the principle. He wore normal clothes and drove a normal vehicle.
What is your definition of rich?
Having what I need to enjoy the lifestyle I've chosen. Pretty simple definition, really.
And I walk to work. Don't need an expensive car.
