CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

Man that sucks. I followed everything he did when I was a kid. I cut out every Snake River Canyon jump article and had them scrapbooked. Sorry to hear he is gone.

I never really liked Evel nor do i like his son. Who calls himself Kaptain when he is Captain of nothing. I always thought he was arrogant and full of crap, but he indeed took terrific chances and he jumped with a 600 lb Harley 750CC Dirt race bike set up to his specifications, and not a light jap dirt bike. Jumping as he did is a lot harder with a Harley. I dont think we will see anyone doing it any time soon.

He reminded me a lot of Jerry Lee Lewis in his actions, in that he was a talented man who let his own ego rule him. He read too many of his own clippings. I always thought the canyon jump was a farce from beginning to end.

That having been said . " May He Rest in Peace" We wont see his like for a long time.

When I was...

...a kid it was a different world in terms of big tv sporting events. The two that really stood out was whenever Evel jumped or Ali fought.

Then, he did the Snake River fiasco and I was disillusioned forever more.

:lmao:

They should make his casket just like that Snake River rocket sled and shoot it up into the air and let it parachute down into the hole.

He was all balls.
