Would like to know what kind of 40mm round it was.. had to be the actual round.. ie percussion cap and powder charge, not the projectile going off.. cause a 40 mm about anything would have cut him an half, and probably taken out a few of his students too. Even then, the amount of shrapnel from a round going off out of chamber.. still think would have done more damage. Something doesn't sound quite right.

I'm almost thinking maybe just a shell with a primer. Place your hand over the top and bring it down on the bug.

Since the 40 mm is a grenade, and he found it in the woods, it probably wasn't an HE round, rather an inert grenade target practice round.

However, even the HE rounds don't arm until about 12 meters, so if it stuck in the ceiling it shouldn't go off.
