That's right, if idiot bigots want to b upset that skynard not using that symbol anymore they should stop buying the music.

Absolutely right! And if people find thugs throwing up gang signs, degrading women, and promoting black on black crime in their police hating, vulgar ryhming-over-backtracks then they have the right to not buy that either.

But this isn't about just a choice in making a purchase... this is about an all out witch hunt against anything that has this flag on it. Oh yeah.... and it is also not promoted by a certain demographic nor is it the main reason why this started in the first place.

Don't worry about mental health or preventing the tragedy that happened... thats too hard. Lets all focus on a flag!

They were Southern rock for Southern white boys. Rednecks.

As you know, my high school was highly integrated and we had no racial issues to speak of. Black kids were Flirting With Disaster and singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long just like the white kids. I guess in Nebraska everyone's a redneck.

As you know, as we've talked about this a million times, you grew up in a racial never land are the only person I've ever met that has zero 'this skin color = this behavior' bias. At all.

I always took it to mean the obvious; In B'ham they love the governor (they voted him in) boo, hoo, boo (cry over it if you like, little babies, none of your business, that's how democracy works jack asses), now we all did what we could do, (throw away line that makes the thing flow and set up the last line of the verse...conscious bother you...)

then;

...where the skies are so blue and the governors true...

...settles the issue. Skynrd wasn't Motown. They were Southern rock for Southern white boys. Rednecks. They were not overtly racist but, in the South, in their era, blacks knew their place. They were not a kum by yah, can't we all get along, hippie, 'n1gger lover' band like CSNY. That's just the way it was and I applaud them for taking the stand they're taking now; that it's time and they do NOT want to offend in any way. Good for them.

When we were in Disney in '03, I recall standing outside the Aerosmith coaster and SHA was playing and a young black kid was singing along. It made me smile, happy of what I took as a symbol that all of that was LONG behind us and it was now (at that time) just a pop song we all know and love, even young black kids, all moving on, and the flag was just a flag from our past. No big deal.

But, make no mistake. Skynrd was a white person's band back then, in the 70's.

Pfft... Lynyrd Skynryd wasn't music for rednecks, this was music for rednecks...

I have one!

Black people, in general, are better dancers than white people.

Please find an interview somewhere with Ronnie Van Zant about the lyrics of the song. Also, please spell the name of the band correctly.

Before they boo him and say they did what they could do (tried to vote him out of office), you mean?

The GFY comes next: "Now Watergate (you Yankees' problem) does not bother me....does your conscience bother you?" Basically, don't stereotype the South based on our sh*thead of a politician unless you want us to stereotype you back.

I can't believe we're dissecting Sweet Home Alabama  AWESOME!

Right again Vrai.
