The ones that get me are the ones that pull out from a side road (while you are driving in the fast right hand lane) and instead of pulling into the empty slow left lane they have to pull across that lane right in front of you.

I am usually speeding down 5/235 and when someone pulls out from a dead stop into the fast lane in front of me, it makes me wonder what the heck are they thinking...........and god help them if they pull that one with a truck. I even had one women do that and then flip me the bird. I locked brakes and wasn't going to be able to stop so I went around her in the slow lane where she should have been from the get go..............and this happens every damn morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlike Europe this whole country doesnt understand the concept of moving over and staying out of the fast lane when you arent passing.

So sorry but isn't the left lane the fast lane on a two lane highway? You also indicate you like to speed and you seem upset at those that get in your way. My suggestion would be to leave earlier if you are pressed for time. I for one would appreciate it if you didn't kill me or my kids because of your own lack of time management skills or most likely your lack of patience. It's a big world out there and we all have to share it.:buddies:

Try driving RT.4 it is agonizing at times.

It pisses me off like nothing else, almost as bad are the A-holes that are trying to save their headlights or something, this time of year 1700 is a good time to turn your lights on, I saw a donkey at 1730 the other day cruising down Rt.4 in a see of lights with no lights on what so ever. I can't stand it.

I stay in the LEFT lane to give the ones pulling out of the side roads a clear lane to pull out into so they will not have to wait on me. But instead of them pulling out into the lane closes to them (RIGHT LANE) to get speed up they cross that lane and pull right in front of me, now you tell me what is up with that??????

If I stated the right lane in the other post then I posted wrong.

And yes I speed, but I do not tailgate or whip around cars or change lanes like a maniac. I slow down in congestion, but on open road I do speed.

I drove/rode to Crystal City for 14 years and drove everyday to Bethesda for 7 years. The worst drivers are the ones here locally...........

I agree 150% that many people just are not paying attention. I can also understand the frustration if you have a long drive to and from work and travel up the road.

I myself have just adapated as well as I can. I drive fron Ridge to Piney Point and back, so for me driving on 235 in the California area is an experience these days.

I grew up in the city and spent a good amount of times on 8 lane roads and interstates. I prefer here all in all. I could make more money in my field of work if I were to travel but my sanity is worth so much more.

I keep one thing in mind. Late is late it doesn't matter if it's 10 seconds or twenty minutes.

P.S. I am the slow poke where I work since I will only drive 5-10 over the speed limit. So I wait until they all leave ahead of me at night.:lmao:

I quit the commute last year, I just couldn't take a 5 hour a day commute. I have been driving locally, and even though the commute is very very short compared to what I was doing, I see more stupid things done on the roads around here then I ever saw on the capital beltway.

One of several recent horror stories I had involved a woman in an orange/red Ford Escape who was pulling off of the road by the Valley Lee post office while I was heading to work. It was pouring down rain and she pulled right out in front of me. I had to slam on the breaks and swerve. Thank Gawd I didn't hit her.

I get to work and a 3 co- workers of mine who were behind me were like "Wow that was really close, glad you are okay, oh and by the way we hope you flicked her off because we did" I said I was just trying not to wreck.

I have to admit though I see this woman every day on my way to work traveling the opposite way & I have had the urge more than once to ride that yellow line to scare her the way she scared me that day.

That's when I take a deep breath and let it go.

The government and highway designers have come up with this plan used at the intersection of Rt. 5 and 235. The plan is to allow people coming onto Rt 5 to come into the left lane by having an acceleration lane alongside the left lane and people are supposed to merge into the left lane. In this way people going north do not have a stop sign, they alledgedly are supposed to allow merging.

Now these cars trying to merge are not impossible to see, Courtesy and common sense would make one believe that when yo see this happening you would get out of the fast lane and give these people some room to merge. Doesnt happen. No. they will run you down before they will move over so you can merge.

Now a little farther up Rt. 5 at Chaptico Rd, there is this same situation only no acceleration lane. There probably should be, but there isnt. Now backagain thinks you should cross his path and jump into the right lane when he comes flying up so as not to get in his way and slow him down. After all he is late. He doesnt have to move over and give you room to get up to speed, because he is in a hurry. Now if he were doing the speed limit it would be no problem, but since you have judged you have enough room to get out in 55 mph traffic and he is doing 75 he cuts you close and get pissed at you.

Now tell me who is right. The highway engineers who built the acceleration lane which tells you to come in on the left side of the road or backagain who thinks you should cut across his wake and get over to the right lane to get up speed.

Its a situation that is easily accomplished with courtesy and staying close to the speed laws ,but is made complex with neither.

We are taught that the left lane is for passing... unfortunately in MD there is no law where the left lane is a passing lane - we are suppose to GIVE WAY - it is just a lane... people thinks it is a right - or its "owed to me" to drive in this lane and piss people off. If I - or others - care to speed it is their prerogative to do so (within safe reason), it is not yours, mine, or others to impede them.

I agree with you, if you need more time - leave early; but sometimes we do not know why others are in a hurry. Most of the times, they are probably just being jerks and they will get whats coming to them - other times it might be an emergency or time critical event we cannot plan - we just can't say, let the cops handle it when they get stopped.

To enforce this and make the left lane a passing lane like in New Jersey, Colorado or Europe, the law would have to change - it was shot down in '05.

Technically, by law, Maryland and Virginia is suppose to give way to faster cars in the left lane...

I am not talking about the merge areas, I move over to the right lane when approaching those areas so those peeps can get into traffic.....I am talking about driving straight down the road and people pulling out from a side road which has a stop sign, I am traveling down the road in the left lane, the right lane is clear and they want to pull out and come across the empty lane and pull right in front of me..........geeze do I have to draw you a picture!!!!!!!!

I'm right there with you, Tigerlilly. Just because the left lane is the "fast" lane doesn't mean I have to go 20 or 30 miles over the speed limit as far as I am concerned but I have had people go flying around me, flip me off, blow their horns and say things I'm sure were not "God bless you." I don't get it. I know it's the fast lane but 10 over is over the speed limit! I don't want a reckless driving ticket just because somebody wants me to drive 90 miles an hour.

Yeah, it doesn't really make any sense.....You don't even have to be driving like a jerk....more and more people get in the left lane and have a "who can get there last" contest with the person traveling beside them in the right lane.

I will get behind the person in the left lane and if they aren't moving i'll get a little closer and flash my lights...if they are going over the speed limit and the person in the right lane is speeding up than it's just the idiot factor. I drive West 2 or more times a year to my mothers and it's amazing how people drive on the highway. I will set my cruise at a certain speed and go...people will pass you then slow down and get in front of you, only to speed up again when you are forced to pass them....then they'll get way ahead and pretty soon the process starts over...or someone will come from behind to pass you, then decide when they are next to you that they want to match speeds?

I can get some Road Rage, but never at people obeying the speed limit and traffic laws, it is the people who are acting like jerks, both on the fast side and slow side...people who drive 10 mph under are just as dangerous as people who drive 10 over IMO.

If they can do it in Oklahoma, maybe 35 years from now we can do it here. :lmao:

I agree that I get ticked if I'm already doing 10 or 15 over and somebody tailgates me, but just to play devil's advocate - courtesy (not law) dictates that it's a passing lane. If you aren't passing anybody while you are there, we are supposed to move over.

Besides, it benefits you to let the extreme speeders get around you - if you let them pass, guess who hits the radar trap first? :yahoo: They've just done you a big favor and took one for the team.
