Assateague Isl when there is a good enough breeze to keep the skeeters down.

Rocky Gap is an okay campground.

Yosemite was awesome, (many years ago)

"Little City by the Sea"- Wachapreague, VA as the bio posts:
Tucked behind pristine barrier beach islands on the seaside of Virginia's Eastern Shore lies the little town of Wachapreague. The region, recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, is truly one of the last large wetland habitats in the world. Attractions other than just the mere beauty of Wachapreague include a vigorous fleet of offshore fishing yachts, terrific inshore flounder fishing, bird watching, unfettered barrier island beaches, hunting, and in short an abundance of nature. :yay:

I think we may stay here when we go to Skyline Drive in October. We've done the Luray area several times and would like to try something new. I'm not sure I can rough it at the NPS campgrounds and we love the Yogi in Hagerstown.

We just took a bunch of kids to Ft Whaley, about 20 miles ouside of Ocean City. It was secure, very clean, lots of stuff for the kids to do. You can also go to the waterpark at OC frontiertown(?) for free with your stay at Ft Whaley. Depends on what you're looking for, it's not remote, they have a store, clean bathroom and showers, a pool, putt putt, hayrides, movies etc etc. There are primitive campsites, pull-thru's, cabins etc. The catch and release pond isnt much of a pond though. If you're planning a trip to O.C. there is free parking at the park and ride west of the bridge and the shuttle bus is $1 roundtrip...and yes you can bring a cooler on the bus, but legally, no alcohol is allowed on the beach at O.C....so bring a hugger too.

Ace Adventure Center in Oak Hill, WV. There's white water rafting, trail rides and a bunch of other activities. There are even cabins that can be rented (with jacuzzi tubs) for the non-campers.
