Do you have a favorite ethnic food that you get a craving for occasionally? How about a favorite dish from somewhere other than the US of A. I guess Tex/Mex would also qualify as ethnic.

I've been to an Afghani restaurant in Falls Church, VA. They have a lunch buffet during the week. Most of the meats are marinated in yogurt and spices, then cooked in a clay oven. The food is very flavorful. They aren't timid about using their spice rack.

I have a few other ethnic foods I enjoy. 1 of the perks of being in the Navy and visiting foreign ports was sampling the local culinary delights. I do not consider balut 1 of those delicacies.

My fave is Thai, specific dish would be pad normai and sticky mango rice.

Many favorites, to hard to choose one. The one that I crave is the one that I haven't found here. It's from Tunisia and is known by a variety of spellings: molaheia; molokhia; mulukhiyah. the morrocan style is not the same. I drive to Arlington for Peruvian chicken (better than new places in Waldorf). Also a quality Indian buffet in Laurel, MD. What is the name of Afghani restaurant in Falls Church? And what is your favorite dish from that place?

Korean - I actually enjoy kimchi, and any kind of Bibimbap and spicy seafood stew, oh and hotpots...just

Thai - but real Siam - the true harmony - not what tends to be put on the plate of us Westerners in restaurants - Kuay Tiew, Som Tam, any green curry dish, sala pao...:yum: Thai pancakes - OMG. I used to work for a Thai family as a kid. Wow, the food. And now I am starving.

I think Mahamri from Mombasa and the thinly sliced grilled bbq throughout Kenya called Nyama choma is my ethnic craving but overall my favorites are indian. specifically, Goan the spice blend is awesome. Love turkish, middleeastern (jordanian and kuwati cuisine), brazilian, somali(especially the njera-wafer thin bread), kenyan especially the cuisine from the coast of Mombasa, Argentinian, Brazilian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Phillipino cuisine, American burgers and fires, steaks, Italian specifically the cuisine from southern part of Itally, Jamaican. Trinidadian(fusion of indian and native trinidadian), mexican, cuban, native american indian, Greek, Moroccan, and some french.

Monello, If you like the Afghan restaurant in VA. You need to try Shahi Grill in Baltimore. His food especially his Tandoori chicken, kebabs and Lahori charga. delish. http://www.shahigrill.com/dinner_menu

Sawatdee(sp) on Great Mills Road serves authentic Thai food, and cooks it as you order.

I think just about any ethnic cuisine which I have liked but can't have often tends to BECOME a favorite.
Used to be Indian until I lived a block from an Indian restaurant. Then Greek - until I moved to a town with a very large Greek minority.
Then various Chinese cuisines. I'll tell you, my short two weeks in China had me craving KFC and McDonald's.

Ethiopian cuisine, I don't get often. I liked it when I was there, but back home, I have to drive a long way for authentic Ethiopian food.

What I *don't* miss? Russian food. Maybe it was where we ate, but most of the stuff had very little taste to me.

The name of the restaurant is Bamian at 5634 Leesburg Pike Falls Church, Virginia. Here is there website. http://www.bamianrestaurant.com

I like their Kabob Shami, Kabob Murgh & Qabibli Palaw. With the buffet you can sample all of it then get more of what you like. That type of cuisine uses a lot of spices and nuts in their recipes.

Korean is near the top of my rather lengthy list. I really like some of the varieties of kimchi (there are very many) and you have to drag me away from a gogi grill...

I've enjoyed the experience of traveling for a living in no small part because I thoroughly enjoy so many kinds of foreign food. Practically all, in fact. I've traveled with other "westerners" that couldn't stand it and some even quit their jobs to avoid foreign foods.

The worst food I've encountered in my 25 years of wandering was in the UK..those Brits can sure ruin anything.
