The name of the restaurant is Bamian at 5634 Leesburg Pike Falls Church, Virginia. Here is there website. http://www.bamianrestaurant.com

I like their Kabob Shami, Kabob Murgh & Qabibli Palaw. With the buffet you can sample all of it then get more of what you like. That type of cuisine uses a lot of spices and nuts in their recipes.

Thanks for the review! I've been wanting to check it out as my corporate site is right there in Skyline and now that I know there is buffet, I may put more effort in. Before I would always just make the hike up to Ravi Kabob off of Glebe. Also been meaning to check out the infamous "Kabob Palace" in Crystal City.

Korean is near the top of my rather lengthy list. I really like some of the varieties of kimchi (there are very many) and you have to drag me away from a gogi grill...

I went through a time when I just couldn't get enough kimchi. I ate it every day, to the point that I don't want it anymore.

When I travel I like to eat with the locals, so I've been able to experience a lot of really good food. Thai in Thailand, paella in Puerto Rico, pancit and lumpia in PI, Chinese and British (blah) in Hong Kong, Arab in Bahrain, kangaroo in Australia, real Sicilian in Sicily, sushi and ramen in Japan, and real Italian in Rome. In Pakistan some consulate employees invited us to their home for an authentic meal. That was pretty awesome.

No matter where we went there was always someone who wanted to get McDonalds, Pizza Hut, or KFC. Those people shouldn't be allowed to go cool places.

I agree. I think part of the joy of traveling and life in general, is to experience new cuisine. Only thing I still laugh about was being offered spam sushi, just because it seemed so out of context. I also am really glad that I've been open minded about all kinds of foods and flavors. I do not like chicken feet and can say so for a fact. I really don't understand people who say they hate something when they've never tried it.

I hate balut and never tried it. I just could not make my hand move to my mouth once I saw that tiny head drooping over my finger.

Agree. If you only want what you've always had, stop leaving your home.

Everyone busting on Brit food - what are we talking about here? Just English or does that include Irish and Scot as well? Because I don't think it gets any better than Irish pub food.

I'm unimpressed with African and Indian cuisine. There are a few things I'll eat, but it's largely blah. Not a large fan of anything predominantly vegetarian.

:lmao: I don't hate it, but I've never been offered it. And I don't know if I'm that brave. Not out of hate, I just don't want to barf in front of strangers. :roflmao: I feel I'd decline an offer of monkey brains as well for the same reason.

Do you have a favorite ethnic food that you get a craving for occasionally? How about a favorite dish from somewhere other than the US of A. I guess Tex/Mex would also qualify as ethnic.

I've been to an Afghani restaurant in Falls Church, VA. They have a lunch buffet during the week. Most of the meats are marinated in yogurt and spices, then cooked in a clay oven. The food is very flavorful. They aren't timid about using their spice rack.

I have a few other ethnic foods I enjoy. 1 of the perks of being in the Navy and visiting foreign ports was sampling the local culinary delights. I do not consider balut 1 of those delicacies.

Have you ever tried Ethiopian? Good stuff.
That, Indian, Moroccan & Japanese are my favorites.
...and I love a good falafel.

I worked with an Ethiopian that brought a lot of food to work. The bread is very unique. Sort of like a spongy pancake. Most of the food was quite spicy. This gal was really adept at eating with no utensils, just grabbed everything with the little pieces of bread.

I met quite a few Ethiopians while living in Italy. They some times would get dressed up in traditional clothing for different occasions. Reminded me of the queen in the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America.

Take your lovely woman to Meskerem in Adams Morgan. Thank me later.

I forgot, also German and Hungarian foods. Schnitzels and wursts are some of my favorites and you can't beat goulash on a cold evening.
