Federal Grand Jury

So now, over a year later, they have requested my presence in Greenbelt every Tuesday in August.

They will put me up in a hotel the night before I am scheduled to be there because I live over 50 miles away.

Of course, this has to happen while I have hubby home with a broken hip:faint:.

Gonna make my 'suces, but they probably won't fly.

Anyone else going to Greenbelt every Tuesday in August that would like a passenger? :flowers:

The hip thing should get you out. Write a letter asap with a Dr signing it.

Doctor already said we have to wait until it gets a little closer, wait and see how much care hubby will need at that time. We're seeing a new doctor on Tuesday, maybe she will write me an excuse note.

Just in case, anyone else going?

Good luck and hope you don't get selected to a lengthy trial.

It may say every Tuesday in August but you call the day before and they usually tell you to not come.

I sat on a regular jury for 5 weeks in Greenbelt. They will put you up at the Marriott across the street but you need to get reservations early cause it does fill up fast.

The people making excuses to try to get out of it was great, some old hippie stood up and said "your honor I love drugs there is no way I can be a juror".

We really only had court 3 days a week and it was from 10-3 usually.

how crazy is that?
I couldn't imagine a murder trial

I still think about the trial & the person who was murdered. The murderer is now in prison, local guy, local name. It was big news at the time. We (the jurors) were escorted to our cars by police after the verdict (which was unanimous ) because the convicted persons family was 'all up into' our faces as we left the courthouse. It was scary.

I saw the convicted person's grand-daughter a few days after the trial at a local grocery store & she definately recognized me and gave me some serious stink-eye. I didn't care and shrugged it off. My first experience at how family names, politics, and St. Mary's County law works.

Being that I had only lived in the county for less than a year at the time, I was probably an excellent choice for a local persons trial from the prosecuters perspective.

I would do it again though.

If it's the Grand Jury, they rarely cancel, and the days can be long. You hear ongoing info on tons of cases. Greenbelt is a nice setup, though. You will become familiar with all the drug, gun, real estate flipping and all kinds of stuff.

I was able to get out of mine by sending a note via email- that I was a sahm and my husband was our only source of income. That financially we couldn't afford for him to take off and watch the kids, nor did I have childcare for them while I was serving jury duty.
They excused me! :yay:

Greenbelt is the US District Court, 4th Circuit, Bankruptcy Court. Baltimore is the US District Court, 4th Circuit, for federal matters.

I believe, occasionally, Greenbelt will hear arguments but I don't think they hold trials there. That is all done at the courthouse in Baltimore on Lombard Street.

My summons for Federal Jury duty was to Greenbelt
I enjoyed my day sitting in the jury room while the attorneys argued before the judge
