WTF is a felted ball anyway?

The kind of felting done around soap is different than the bag I have. The soap felting is done by wrapping soap and sticking it in pantyhose to rub the wool, creating the felting. My purse was washed in the washer. Can't do that with the soap :lmao:
I don't know if she means felted soap balls or just felted balls of wool

So...if we stick your balls in pantyhose and rub...waaaaalaaaaa!! Felted balls!

Awesome...I will check it out! I saw some really cute Santa ornaments with curly fleece beards. I want to make them.
Let me know how it turns out! I like to work with felt, so I was thinking of making my own wool felt using wool roving (because regular wool felt is hard to find and relatively expensive). Plus I just got a new craft book that has a couple cute felting projects. It looks pretty easy and straightforward, but you never can tell.

There are too many comments to reply to...so I'll just put them all here.

Felted balls are made by taking wool and using hot water and soap. You rub the wool, and the friction causes the wool fibers to "felt." When you're done, you have a solid ball. Have you ever seen what happens to a wool sweater when someone puts it in the washer? You can use any natural fiber (wool, angora, cat fur, dog fur, etc.).

Nickel- the wool balls are fairly easy to make. I made about 10 small ones last night. They'd make great cat toys, or dog toys if they were made bigger. I even took one of those plastic balls with a bell in it and felted the wool around it. When it dries you can here the bell jingling. The balls end up looking like this, but you can make them in any size or color.

And about the nasty ball comments....I need to visit urbandictionary.com real quick...because I'm .

ETA: :twitch: Y'all are gross.

I have been learning how...mostly felting balls right now. I've about mastered those. What's the difference between cut and uncut? Also, there are fine, medium, and coarse. What's the difference? Thanks!! :howdy:

I'm more interested in needle felting, so that I can make things like handbags and such. I think the wet felting is the process I'd use to felt wool roving for use as regular felt, right?

I have a ton of resources (books, websites, blogs, etc), so if you're ever looking for good projects or patterns (not specifically felting...lots of sewing or paper projects) let me know. :howdy:

Yeah, I like wet felting for flat works, then I'd like to needle felt on top of it. For your handbags, you could knit them first, then wash them, then needle felt on top of that. Or, you could make a large sheet of felt and cut it into a handbag pattern. That would probably be alot harder than just knitting it though. I can knit, but only scarves so far. I have thought about knitting scarves and then needle felting a little design at the ends.

I definitely would love to see the patterns and projects you have! Especially with winter coming up...I'll have lots more indoor time.

Here are pics of the felt balls I've made so far. Most of them are small...between bouncy ball and golf ball sized. The larger ones have those plastic jingly balls cats play with. I figured I'll see if my cats like them. I'd like to figure out how to dye darker colors though.

Ok...I did my first needle-felted thingy. I'm going to hang it from my rear-view. It was a test thing, but I think it's cute.
