Genesis 21:1 Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. 3 Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6 Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” 7 And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
8 The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast. 9 But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, 10 and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.”
11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son. 12 But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. 13 I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring.”
14 Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.
15 When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, she began to sob.
17 God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. 18 Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.
20 God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer. 21 While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.
Here ya' go... here's the link to the commentary.

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar… scoffing: This conflict between the two sons was almost inevitable, even though they were approximately 13 years apart in age. Abraham found it hard to agree with Sarah’s complaint, when he did not want to reject his son through Hagar, Ishmael.
Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice: Perhaps Abraham did not want to give up Ishmael because he considered the son of Hagar something of a backup plan. If something should happen to Isaac, there would always be Ishmael. God did not want Abraham to trust in a backup son or in a backup plan. God wanted Abraham to trust in Him.
Sent her away: God’s solution was clear — get rid of the son of the flesh. There was to be no reconciliation with the flesh, no peaceful coexistence. The son of the flesh must simply be put away forever.
Then she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba: It may have seemed ruthless of Abraham to do this, but it was exactly what God wanted, and exactly what needed to happen.
The water in the skin was used up: As Hagar and Ishmael traveled away from Abraham, their supplies eventually ran out. Their water was used up and Hagar left Ishmael under the shade of one of the shrubs, expecting their soon death in the wilderness.
“Behold the compassion of a mother for her child expiring with thirst, and remember that such a compassion ought all Christians to feel towards souls that are perishing for lack of Christ, perishing eternally, perishing without hope of salvation.” (Spurgeon)
So God was with the lad: The idea is emphasized that God was not against Ishmael and his descendants. God was with Ishmael, and had a promise for his future.
Boy that Sarah behaved like a female dog! I bet she really put up a fuss when she had to give her beautiful body over to childbirth and breast feeding.

Hagar, on the other hand, was just full of herself. She was the mother of Ishmael, the first son of Abraham... and he would take the lion's share of Abraham's fortune. Her son was now 13. He had grown close to his father. He was an archer... a hunter.... and now Ishmael was old enough for Abraham to consider a will.

So, Hagar might have very well been sneering at the birth of a son to Abraham's "chosen" wife.

Sarah couldn't have Hagar laughing at her... and now... Sarah has her own son... and Abraham is, afterall, her husband. Hagar was just surrogate... how dare she sneer. Sarah would end that foolishness now that she had a son to be the sole heir to Abraham's fortune.

Ishmael, according to the commentary, was 13 years old. He was a man, in those days. Yet Hagar put him under a bush to hide him from the heat of the desert. Then she sat down and sobbed.

How sad is this???? Sarah was just such a female dog!!!!

How many people, since then, have thrown adopted babies out when the naturally conceived baby came along?

Abraham was 100 years old... there was a small fortune to be settled here. Sarah had to make Hagar and Ishmael disappear or the reading of the will might get very embarrassing.

God told Hagar not to worry. He provided her with the water she needed and promised to look after her and Ishmael.

Ishmael.... married an Egyptian. Hagar was Egyptian. She got her son an Egyptian wife.

So now... we have Isaac in Canaan and Ishmael in Egypt.

Sarah was just such a female dog!!!

Can I say that online?

Female dog!!!

So all this turmoil in the Middle East is ultimately Sarah's fault. Had she not sent Hagar away in a fit of jealousy, Ishmael and Isaac may have grown up as brothers instead of creating enemy legacies that would last for millennia.

Talk about holding a grudge.

At least todays topic isn't a pornhub daddy-daughter love affair again.

If she hadn't given Hagar to her husband.... there would be no "bastard" child.

Was she concerned about her beauty or did she really think she was physically not capable of carrying a baby?

Eve talked Adam into eating an apple. Sarah talked Abraham into lying with Hagar.

I'm seeing a pattern....

Men get stupid when sex is on the table? Not exactly a newsflash. :jet:

She and Abraham had been married for however many years, and one presumes that they *ahem* shared a marital bed. So I have to think she was barren, otherwise she'd have gotten pregnant at some point before God got bored and was like, "You know what, I could make peace and love and harmony but....nah....I think I'll make warring tribal factions instead...."

The Bible doesn't really make Sarah come across as a female dog. She is largely portrayed as faithful and obedient. They don't really specify exactly what Ishmael said regarding baby Isaac, but if some teenager was being crappy to your infant it's reasonable to want him out of your house. I don't get a sense of her as some floozy.
